Taraji P. Henson, Oprah Winfrey & More Stars Who Dazzled at the Premiere of The Color Purple

Back in 1985, Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey starred in the now classic and Oscar-nominated Steven Spielberg movie, The Color Purple. Fast-forward to 2023, stars including Taraji P. Henson, Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, Chloe Bailey, H.E.R. and Ciara are getting ready for the musical adaptation to hit theaters on Dec. 25!

The movie, which is set in the south in the 1900s, follows the story of four women who survive domestic and sexual violence and abuse thanks to one another. “This has a legacy—the book Alice Walker wrote, then our film version in 1985, then the musical in 2005 and again in 2015. And now here we are,” Winfrey told Essence. “It just keeps evolving.” “This story lives forever,” echoed Henson, who plays Shug in the upcoming adaptation. “It’s like Shakespeare. It’s never going to go away.”

Ahead of the long-awaited premiere, stars of the show and many supporters wowed at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on Dec. 6. To check out all of the night’s best looks, scroll below!
