In a star-studded event like the Golden Globes, it’s safe to say that avid TV show and movie fans from all over the world can recognize most of the people in the room. After all, it seems like the buzz surrounding the year’s biggest shows and movies, like The Bear or Barbie, takes over popular culture for a certain point in time.
But, with that said however, you might be surprised to hear that many of last night’s biggest winners, from Beef star Ali Wong to Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy were taking home Golden Globes for the very first time. That’s right, while many of these stars have been in the industry making incredible shows and movies throughout the years, they were recognized for their work for the very first time at last night’s event.

Ali Wong took home her first-ever Golden Globe last night, the Best Female Actor Limited/Anthology Series or TV Movie award, for her role in Beef.
Cillian Murphy
While Cillian Murphy’s performance in Oppenheimer was largely predicated to be last night’s winner for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, it’s still surprising that it marked the actor’s very first Globe.
Christopher Nolan
The same goes for Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan, who had been nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay four times over the years. Last night, he took home his first-ever Best Director Motion Picture win.
Ayo Edebiri
Ayo Edebiri also took home a Globe for the first time last night for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for The Bear.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph
Da’Vine Joy Randolph was all smiles last night when she won the Best Supporting Female Actor award for her role in The Holdovers.
Elizabeth Debicki
Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Princess Diana in the final two seasons of The Crown, won her first award for Best Supporting Female Actor – Television.
Lily Gladstone
Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone made history last night as she won her first Golden Globe and became the first Indigenous person to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress.

Succession star Kieran Culkin looked giddy after accepting his award for Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama.

Culkin’s co-star Matthew MacFayden also took home his first award as he accepted the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television for Succession.
Sarah Snook
In a triple win for the series, Sarah Snook also took an award for Succession home, this time being the Best Performance by a Female Actress in a Television Series Drama award.
Steven Yeun
Steven Yeun also took home his first award last night as he won the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television award for his role in Beef.
