With the SAG Awards just around the corner on Feb. 24, we might not get to see some major A-listers on the red carpet due to some of the shocking snubs in this year’s award show nominations.
Leonardo DiCaprio, for example, may be one of the stars to skip the show after missing out on a nomination for his role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. While DiCaprio could still earn a SAG Award in the Best Motion Picture Cast category, the actor did skip out on the BAFTAs this year after failing to land a nomination.
The 2024 award season has been one of the most competitive years in recent memory due to many critically acclaimed releases including Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, Barbie, Poor Things, The Holdovers and more. With these heavy hitters in the mix, other highly-praised releases like, May December and Past Lives, have struggled to get recognized in key categories, or at all.
Like in any award show season, there are some actors who land nominations in every single award show. This year, for example, Oppenheimer‘s Cillian Murphy, The Holdovers star Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Emma Stone’s work in Poor Things have received awards over and over again. Other stars, however, might be nominated for some awards while sadly snubbed in others. Take the Barbie cast for example, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling have received nominations in several major award shows this year while fellow star America Ferrera didn’t get her dues until receiving an Oscar nomination for her work in the film. Robbie, meanwhile, was snubbed by the Oscars as was Barbie director Greta Gerwig.
On Jan. 10, Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani joined to announce the nominations for the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards, which will be taking place on Feb. 24. During the announcement, while many fans were surprised with a few inclusions, like Bel Powley’s nomination for A Small Light, or the cast of The Gilded Age being nominated for Cast Ensemble in a Drama Series, others were shocked and furious over some major snubs. Among the snubs, for instance, is Greta Lee not being nominated for Past Lives and no nominations for May December. Shocking, we know!
