As time goes on, the typical: fall in love, get married, buy a house, and have kids life path isn’t the staple one anymore. Everyone loves in their own way, and each relationship is uniquely theirs. While some want the typical path, others may want something else entirely (and both are great)! Now, we’ve heard from quite a few celebrity couples about having separate beds, but have you heard about some celebrity couples who got married and lived in separate houses?
It’s true quite a few celebrity couples have tied the knot, or just gone the distance without a wedding ring, and didn’t move in together. While most have moved in together after a few years, there are still quite a few that live in separate houses (but still love each other as much as they did when they first got together).
For instance, Sheryl Lee Ralph and her husband, Vincent J Hughes, have jobs on other sides of the country. And even though they’ve been together for over 20 years and married for nearly 19, they don’t live together, and they think it’s cool!
In fact, when she was asked about it by Entertainment Tonight and 2024, she said: “I don’t know why, we’ve been commuting ever since the beginning and it has worked for us so it’s cool!”

Sarah Paulson & Holland Taylor
Sarah Paulson revealed in a May 2023 appearance on the “Smartless” podcast that the secret to her relationship with fellow actress Holland Taylor is their separate homes.
“We don’t live together, that’s the sort of secret,” she said. “Holland and I, we spend plenty of time together but we don’t live in the same house.”
“We’ve been together for a long time now and I think part of it has to do with, we’re together when we wanna be and we’re not when we don’t,” she added. Paulson and Taylor have been together since 2015.
Gillian Anderson & Peter Morgan
Sex Education star Gillian Anderson and The Crown creator Peter Morgan dated from 2016 until 2020, before reuniting again in 2023 but have never co-habitated.
“My partner and I don’t live together. If we did, that would be the end of us. It works so well as it is – it feels so special when we do come together,” Anderson told The Guardian in 2020.
She added that one of the major benefits of separate homes is that she can see “a pair of trousers left lying on the floor at my partner’s house and step over them and not feel it is my job to do something about it.”
Johnny McDaid & Courteney Cox
Friends actress Courteney Cox has been in a long-distance relationship with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid since 2013 due to the Irish musician being based in London while she resides primarily in Los Angeles. But the distance doesn’t seem to bother Cox!
“As long as you have trust, then I think it doesn’t matter where you are. You can be yourself and yet be excited when you see each other,” Cox said during a 2023 appearance on Drew Barrymore’s talk show.
Georges LeBar & Rupaul
Drag Queen extraordinaire Rupaul does not follow conventional marriage “rules” when it comes to his relationship with Australian rancher Georges LeBar.
The couple, who first started dating in 1994, are in an open relationship and are primarily long-distance with LeBar living on their Wyoming ranch while Rupaul splits his time between there and LA.
“We see each other about every three weeks,” RuPaul, who works in Los Angeles, told Interview in 2019. “But, you know, we’re adults. We can handle it.”
Brad Falchuk & Gwyneth Paltrow
Brad Falchuk and Gwyneth Paltrow waited a year after they tied the knot to move in together and only spent around four nights a week together before their one year anniversary.
“All my married friends say that the way we live sounds ideal and we shouldn’t change a thing,” Paltrow said in an interview with The Sunday Times in June 2019, via People. However, the actress revealed the following month that the couple were planning on moving in together soon.

Despite nearly 20 years of marriage, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Vincent J. Hughes have mostly lived separately because of their jobs!
“Vincent and I have been married going on 19 years. We’ve been together 21 years. Abbott is shot in Los Angeles. My husband, as a senator, is always in his capitol [Harrisburg, Penn.], so I don’t know what magic people think we’re gonna do,” she told ET in 2023. “We see each other on the average of every two weeks. And everybody who questions that I say, guess what? We’re still married!”
Kourtney Kardashian & Travis Barker
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker waited to move in together, even after tying the knot, for the sake of letting their blended family take time to adjust. Kardashian told the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in Oct 2022, “We want our kids to also feel really comfortable and they have both lived in their homes their whole lives for the most part, and they each have their rooms and we are a block away.”
“We have, like, a thing and he comes over every night no matter what,” the star added. “He comes over here and kisses me whether it’s midnight and he is getting back from the studio or whatever.”
It is unclear if the couple moved in together since welcoming their son, Rocky, in 2023.
Nico Tortorella & Bethany C. Meyers
Despite marrying in 2018, Nico Tortorella and Bethany C. Meyers didn’t live together for years. Tortorella told PEOPLE in May 2019 that they did buy a home together in New York. “We still don’t live together. We see each other on a weekly basis. We’re FaceTiming all day, everyday,” they said.

Bryan Greenberg and Jamie Chung have been together since 2012 and married since 2015 but, in 2016, Chung revealed that the couple were still practicing long-distance due to their careers.
“We do spend a lot of time apart because of work. He’s in L.A., I’m in New York. He’s in Atlanta, I’m in New York. We keep missing each other, so the time that we do have together, we’re very cognizant of how limited it is. We try to make the most of the time we do have together,” she told People.
Since welcoming twins in 2021, the duo do seem to be living together.
Claire Danes & Hugh Dancy
Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy have been married since 2009 but spent several years of their marriage living apart while Danes was filming Homeland.
“That was tough,” Danes admitted to Porter in 2020. “That distance is corrosive, and I’m just bad at it. And I don’t particularly want to get good at it. We learned along the way how essential it is for us to be physically together as often as possible.”
Danes, who starred in the North Carolina-based show from 2011 until it ended in 2020, did manage to close the distance in the final season when Dancy landed a role in the series.
The couple share three children, two sons born in 2012 and 2018, and a daughter born in 2023.
Justin Ervin & Ashley Graham
Model Ashley Graham married Justin Ervin in 2010 but revealed in a 2016 interview that they weren’t yet living together full-time.
“We have a rule. We don’t go longer than two weeks without seeing each other,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s absolutely fabulous. I love it. We just meet in L.A. or New York. We meet in Paris, Miami.”
The couple are now happily co-habitating with their three sons.
