While the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers is undoubtedly the main attraction at this year’s long-awaited Super Bowl. Game day has become memorable for a multitude of reasons. In the advertising space, for example, brands often pull out all the stops for their star-studded ads.
With some many fans tuning in, brands know the value of capturing viewers attention to promote their products in this crucial time slot. And what better way to keep people engaged than a celebrity appearance!
According to Katie Couric Media, a survey by the National Retail Federation estimates that more than 200 million Americans will watch this year’s Super Bowl. That’s half of the American population!
The outlet also spoke to University of Maryland marketing professor Amna Kirmani who emphasized just how big of a deal the Super Bowl is for advertisers.
“For some companies, they blow their entire year’s advertising budget on this because they can make such a splash,” Kirmani said.
Talking to Jimmy Fallon about his upcoming Super Bowl ad for Popeyes, for example, actor Ken Jeongcouldn’t hide his excitement. “I was a doctor, I grew up in New Orleans, I did my medical residency in New Orleans, and it’s my first Super Bowl ad with Popeyes chicken that started in New Orleans,” he said. “It’s very full circle because, no joke, after a long shift, I would come back and would always have a spicy chicken sandwich and then go home.”
“I manifested this!” the Community alum added.

“So David and I are gonna be in a little commercial,” Victoria says at the beginning of the video (see it HERE!) while wearing a shirt that says “My dad had a Rolly-Royce.” The former soccer player then interjects. “Be honest, be honest,” he says, just like he did in their documentary. “Okay it’s a big commercial,” she continued, adding that “Jessica Aniston,” who we can only assume is Jennifer Aniston, will be in it too.

Pete Davidson
In a second Hellman’s ad, McKinnon hears her cat say “Mayo” and she becomes an overnight sensation.
