In the front rows at New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion week, celebrities are trying their hand at the sheer trend that has taken over runways in the past year.
The sheer, “naked” trend is nothing new, we’ve seen endless stars in stunning naked dresses on the red carpet for years now. However, when Women’s Wear Daily, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar all declared the sheer trend officially “in” at the beginning of 2023, we knew we were about to see a LOT of celebrities trying out see-through looks not just on the red carpet but at premieres, fashion shows and even on casual night outs!
And with the February 2024 fashion month well under way, the stars have definitely not disappointed us when it comes to showing off their takes on the sheer trend!
On the runway, designers are proving that the sheer trend is here to stay too. During NYFW, Michael Kors and LaQuan Smith showed sheer stretch tops in their latest collections. Altuzarra showcased slip dresses and slim skirts in thin, sheer fabric, and in London, Di Petsa’s runway was filled with see-through looks. Then, over in Paris, Saint Laurent offered up a very sheer collection with plenty of skin showing not only on the runway, but in the front row too!
Fashionable celebrities from Katie Holmes to Alexa Chung, both of whom are fashion month regulars, have tried it out in the front row and we’re expecting to see even more stars put their spin on the trend.
Here are all of the stars who wore sheer looks at fashion week.
Zoë Kravitz
Saint Laurent’s runway and front row was filled with many daring see-through looks and Zoë Kravitz’s #FreeTheNipple moment might have been one of the more conservative looks!
Elsa Hosk
Model Elsa Hosk, meanwhile, tried out the sheer trend while embracing office-core in this pinstripe suit at Saint Laurent.
Olivia Wilde
The always-confident Olivia Wilde also joined the pack in this totally sheer bodysuit, continuing her loud and proud support for destigmatizing women’s bodies.
Georgia May Jagger
Outside Saint Laurent, Georgia May Jagger posed for photos in a chic pencil skirt and sheer shirt combo.
Rosé
Rosé’s flowing brown dress that featured sheer ruffles was a playful take on the see-through trend.
Lila Moss
Lila Moss also dabbled in the sheer trend at Saint Laurent in this black long-sleeve maxi dress that showed off her figure and even revealed a black thong underneath.
Christina Milian
Christina Milian looked etheral at the Ester Manas show in a figure-hugging white, sheer dress with ruffle detailing at the bottom. She added an edgy touch in this mint leather trenchcoat.
Mia Khalifa
Influencer Mia Khalifa was all smiles at the Ester Manas show in a similar look to Milian expect in a taupe color.
Alexa Chung
Alexa Chung, the unofficial queen of London fashion week, is never late to a trend so it is no suprise that she has adopted the sheer trend, opting for this skin-revealing gold look at British Vogue and Tiffany & Co.’s 2024 Fashion & Film Party on Feb. 18.
Chung paired the gold dress, from New York-based designer Bode, with a pair of sheer tights.
Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes has been the go-to fashion icon for many edgy moms over the past number of years and her latest fashion week appearances have only solidified her style-inspo status.
This totally sheer lace look at the Michael Kors fashion show on Feb. 13 proved that Holmes never shies away from trying new things.
Rosamund Pike
While attending the same event at Chung, Rosamund Pike showed off a stunningly creative take on the sheer trend in this Jean Paul Gaultier Couture by Simone Rocha look.
Her puff-ball skirt and embroidered button-up shirt showcased plenty of skin while still mainting a kooky, chic vibe.
Bella Thorne
The always-daring Bella Thorne was sheer all over in this full-length, high-neck nude gown at the Diesel fashion show on Feb. 21 in Milan.
Amy Jackson
Ed Westwick’s fiancée Amy Jackson mixed sequin and sheer fabric on this beautiful mini dress while attending the Roberto Cavalli on Feb. 21.
Maya Jama
Jackson was joined by Love Island host Maya Jama who also put her own spin on the sheer trend in this intricate dress that featured several sheer and cutout panels.
Gabrielle Union
Gabrielle Union always blows us away with her playful fashion and her sheer, lace two-piece set at Michael Kors was no different.
Kelsea Ballerini
Like Union, Kelsea Ballerini was also ahead of the curve at Michael Kors, wearing a sheer dress while the designer showcased even more of the sheer trend in the latest collection.
Elizabeth Hurley
Elizabeth Hurley put a slightly more modern spin on the sheer trend with this plunging black dress while joining her son Damian at a NYFW party.
AnnaSophia Robb
AnnaSophia Robb wore a sheer shirt while braving New York City’s cold weather to attend an NYFW dinner.
Kylie Jenner
Back in January, Kylie Jenner was also an early adopter of the sheer trend when she stepped out at Paris Haute Couture Week to attend Jean Paul Gaultier show in this sultry mini dress with a full-length sheer overlay.
