Celebrity lip reading scandals have been sweeping award shows and public events, and it looks like no star is safe!
Sure, if you’re a celebrity attending a big event like the 2024 Golden Globes or King Charles III’s coronation, you can assume that cameras will be on you at all times. At all moments, in every angle, cameras will be there. But, as some celebrities have recently found out the hard way, making sure you look good isn’t their only concern, they need to be careful with what they say too.
In some recent events, for example, the internet has gone into a frenzy trying to lip-read celebrity conversations. From Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez’s best friend chat at the Globes to Emma Stone’s alleged diss to Jimmy Kimmel at the Oscars, stars’ whispers to each other might quickly become front-page news. After all, you never know who’s watching!
Of course, we may never know for sure what these stars were really saying (despite the opinions of expert lip readers online!) And, honestly, maybe it is none of our business! That said, some stars have found a way to poke fun at their scandals — such as Selena Gomez and Emily Blunt who jokingly posed with their hands over their mouths at the AFI Awards in January after we both caught up in lip reading scandals at the 2024 Golden Globes days earlier! So, it looks like the stars are not taking these so-called scandals too seriously.

At the 2024 Oscars, Oscar winner Emma Stone went viral for allegedly talking about host Jimmy Kimmel to her husband Dave McCary.
It all began when clips of Stone’s movie Poor Things played on the big screen. Then, Kimmel walked on stage and cracked a joke about the Best Picture nominee. “Those were all the parts of Poor Things that we’re allowed to show on TV,” the late-night host said, referring to the movie’s many explicit scenes.
Following the joke, the camera then panned to Stone, who looked less than pleased with the comment. According to many internet users, Stone proceeded to tell her husband that Kimmel is a “prick.” Ouch!
Emily Blunt & John Krasinski
At the 2024 Golden Globes, power couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski shared a moment that had fans of the couple almost in tears.
In the clip, Blunt and Krasinski come together for a side hug and they posed for pictures. At that moment, Krasinski then can be heard whispering something into Blunt’s ear.
For many, The Quiet Place director can be heard saying “I can’t wait to divorce, I’m serious.”
For others, the actor is not complaining about their marriage and is merely talking about the event itself. “I can’t wait to get through this,” some fans hear. “I can’t wait to get indoors,” theorized another curious fan. “It’s so windy.”
Knowing that these two haven’t announced any split since, we’re hoping it wasn’t the first option.
Selena Gomez & Taylor Swift
In another lip-reading moment that went viral at the 2024 Golden Globes, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller’s chat caught some attention.
After a clip of them gossiping about his social media, internet’s lip-readers jumped on the opportunity. According to expert Jeremy Freeman for Page Six, Gomez allegedly said, “He didn’t want a picture with me. He said no.” Teller then allegedly replied “Timothée?” and Gomez then nodded.
And before the internet continued buzzing over a potential feud between Gomez and Chalamet, Gomez set the record straight. “Noooooo I told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up,” Gomez wrote on Instagram, per Billboard. “Not that that’s anyone business.”
Selena Gomez & Taylor Swift (Again!)
Back at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, a convo between Swift and Gomez got another round of internet scrutiny. It all happened when One Direction, including Swift’s ex Harry Styles, took the stage and thanked their fans, per HuffPost.
The camera then panned to Swift who could be heard telling her friend “Shut the f— up.” Looks like someone wasn’t happy with the appearance!
Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez
Out of all the couples in Hollywood, perhaps besides Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have the world watching their every move. At the premiere of The Mother last year, for example, eagle-eyed fans couldn’t stop trying to understand what they said to each other. After all, Affleck looks quite annoyed in the pictures.
But, according to an expert lipreader for Daily Mail, their conversation was not at all heated. Per the source, Lopez asked Affleck if her top was too low-cut to which Affleck responded that it was fine.
After some pics, Affleck told his wife “Don’t worry babe” while she asked him to move close. “Come close to me,” she told her hubby. Kind of cute, if you ask us!

While attending the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards, friends Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers caught up while sitting side by side in the audience. But, despite their private talk, a clip of their convo has Swifites in a frenzy.
According to one TikToker that went viral, Swift was opening up to Bridgers. “I’m not normally a bad person,” the “Bad Blood” singer allegedly said, per Cosmopolitan. “I just don’t, I just don’t want him around all the time.”
“Sorry for all my problems,” Swift continued.

Prince William & Prince Harry
While this interaction between Prince William and Prince Harry at William’s wedding wasn’t all that scandalous, the adorable moment surely went viral back in 2011. In the clip, Harry is standing next to William at the end of the aisle while Kate Middleton walks down the aisle.
Harry then allegedly whispers to his older brother, “Right, she is here now,” per royal author Marcia Moody on Cosmopolitan. “Well, she looks beautiful, I can tell you that.” How adorable!
Prince Harry & Jack Brooksbank
In a more scandalous moment from Harry, the royal was caught chatting with Princess Eugenie’s husband Jack Brooksbank during King Charles III’s coronation.
Per The Sun, Harry was seen complaining about his family. “I’m fed up with the way they treat me,” Harry allegedly told Brooksbank. Knowing how far back Harry had to sit for the occasion, we totally get his frustration.
