There are some celebrities who we can count on being at the Met Gala every single year, and then there are celebrities who have gone once and have vowed never to go back. However, the overwhelming majority of celebrities are in a third category, where they attend quite a few Met Galas, sometimes in a row, and then don’t come back for a really long time. It’s happened with Zendaya, Emma Watson, and, of course, Taylor Swift.
Swift last attended a Met Gala in 2016 for “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” where she infamously met her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. She hasn’t been back since, but many are convinced that she will attend the 2024 Met Gala, which has the theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
We’re still waiting to find out for sure if Swift will go to the 2024 Met Gala or if she will be attending with her boyfriend Travis Kelce but fans are still convinced that she could make a surprise appearance like she did at Coachella.
But whether she does or doesn’t, we can still take a walk down memory lane and see all of her Met Gala looks ahead of the 2024 Met Gala on May 6.
Below, see Swift’s Met Gala looks from 2008 to 2016.
2008: “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy”
For Swift’s Met Gala debut, she donned a sparkling gold Badgley Mischka gown for the theme in 2008 titled “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy,” which was all about exploring the aesthetics of superhero costumes.
2010: “American Women: Fashioning a National Identity”
For the 2010 Met Gala “American Women: Fashioning a National Identity,” it was all about female designers and women’s fashion throughout the years. Swift donned a flowing Ralph Lauren gown that was inspired by the more delicate, classically feminine looks.
2011: “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty”
Despite the theme being all about Alexander McQueen, Swift donned a tulle and lace, nude gown from J. Mendel.
2013: “Punk: Chaos to Couture”
Swift opted for J. Mendel again in 2013 for the theme “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” which was all about embracing punk elements in fashion.
2014: “Charles James: Beyond Fashion”
For the 2014 theme “Charles James: Beyond Fashion,” it was all about honoring the sculptural designs of mid-20th century fashion designer Charles James. For the event, Swift donned a pink peplum gown from Oscar de la Renta.
2016: “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”
The last Met Gala theme that Swift has attended to date was in 2016 for the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” one, which was all about the intersection between fashion and technology. Swift donned a custom, metallic Louis Vuitton mini-dress.
