As senior members of the British royal family, Prince William and Kate Middleton inherited so much wealth and property it’s hard for us to even wrap our heads around.
In 2022, for example, William and Kate were named the newest Duke and Duchess of Cornwell when King Charles III ascended to the throne. The new title also meant William gained official control of the Duchy of Cornwall. As such, he gained a private portfolio of land and financial investments consisting of 52,449 “hectares of land” and £345 million worth of commercial properties overnight. Talk about a payday!
The couple and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, have access to some of the most opulent estates and manor in all of the United Kingdom and, over the years, the family have moved between various primary residences.
In 2010, months before getting engaged, the couple into a cottage on the Bodorgan Estate in Anglesey, Wales, where they resided until 2014. They also used Nottingham Cottage as their London base until 2013. Now, as a family of five with three young kids, their housing needs have changed over the years and, luckily, they are not stuck for options. Their list of residences is as long as it is luxurious and we have some images of their sprawling homes.

Kensington Palace: Apartment 1A
While Kate and William don’t live in Kensington Palace full-time, it’s the couple’s “official residence.” Over time, it seems the couple mostly uses the Palace for their royal duties, like hosting the Obamas in 2016.
The Palace has 20 rooms, 4 stories, several reception rooms and drawing rooms, a fleet of staff bedrooms, a gym, an elevator, and a walled garden.
All this luxury, however, was one of the reasons the Waleses decided not to live there with their kids.
“This is very much a decision that two parents have made to give their children the ‘most normal’ start possible,” royal sources told The Mirror. “KP can be a little bit of a fishbowl. They wanted to be able to give George, Charlotte and Louis a bit more freedom than they have living in central London. It’s very much a decision that’s been led by the kids.”
“Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace is perfect in so many ways but the Duke and Duchess and their children are unable to come and go as they might like or take advantage of the nearby London parks because of the ever-present privacy issues,” the sources added.
Adelaide Cottage
In 2022, William and Kate moved into their full-time home, Adelaide Cottage. “Relocating to Adelaide Cottage in the ultra-private Home Park at Windsor takes away the ‘goldfish-bowl’ aspect of the Cambridge family’s life,” sources told The Mirror.
The home, which has four bedrooms and is located on the grounds of Windsor Castle, was first built in 1831 and named for William IV’s wife, Queen Adelaide.
Anmer Hall
Prior to their move to Adelaide, Kate, William and their kids moved to Anmer Hall at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, per The Week. The two-story Georgian home, which was built in the 18th century, was given to the couple as a wedding gift by Queen Elizabeth II in 2011.
Before the family moved in, the Hall underwent a £1.5 million renovation which included a new roof, a brand-new kitchen and conservatory, and a total redecoration of the interior.
Tam-Na-Ghar
While William’s dad King Charles owns the Balmoral estate, William and Kate reportedly own Tam-Na-Ghar, a three-bedroom home on the Balmoral grounds which was gifted to him by his great-grandmother the Queen Mother back in 2002.
Highgrove House
So while King Charles is the King of England, reports show that he might be paying rent on his country home, the Highgrove House, to his son William. Highgrove is technically owned by the Duchy of Cornwall and William officially inherited the Duke of Cornwall title from his father in 2022.
“Charles is expected to keep his beloved Highgrove as his family home,” a source told Daily Mail at the time. “It is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, which William will inherit when Charles becomes King. Then William will be his father’s landlord, taking £700,000 a year rent.” Mind-boggling, right?
