With a Netflix show as famous and record-breaking as Bridgerton, it’s no wonder that it’s had some scandals over the years. After all, many of its viewers were readers of Julia Quinn’s novels too so expectations from the beginning were quite high.

The show launched debuted at the end of 2020 and fans were immediately swept up in the love story between characters Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, and Regé-Jean Page‘s Simon Basset. Season two was a chance for Daphne’s brother, Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), to shine while he fought for his a chance to find love with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). And season three, in a drastic move that deviated from Quinn’s book series, celebrates the fan-favorite romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).

And while most of the show has received incredible success, with season three’s debut weekend reaching an unprecedented 45.1 million views, per Variety, not everything has been a home run for fans. When Page announced his departure after season one to work on other projects, for example, fans were decidedly frustrated. Why did we fall in love with the Duke of Hastings to never see him again, right?
