On June 30, many of our favorite musicians, actors and all-around scene-stealers joined at the star-studded 2024 BET Awards. From Oscar nominees Colman Domingo and Taraji P. Henson (who also hosted the award show) to chart-topping artists like Tinashe and Tyla, the red carpet was filled to the brim with celebrities.
Among them was Usher, who was honored that night with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
“Getting here has definitely not been easy but it has been worth it,” Usher began his speech. “I didn’t write anything because I wanted this exact moment to be what it was — present, in this moment, how I am feeling and the appreciation that I have for each and every person that had anything to do with this moment tonight as well as the 30-plus-year career that I celebrate.”
“This Lifetime Achievement Award — I don’t know, man. Is it too early for me to receive it, cause I’m still running and gunning?” the “My Boo” singer added. “I still love this s– like I did when I [was] eight years old.”
Among the other big winners of the night were SZA for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Kendrick Lamar for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Tyla for Best New Artist, and Angel Reese, who won the Sportswoman of the Year Award.
