Whether or not we’d like to admit, we look to celebrities for just about every kind of inspiration. Whether you’re looking for relationship advice, or how to style an outfit, celebrities can often provide us with more inspiration than a lot of Pinterest boards combined. So, why not look at them for tattoo inspiration too?
After all, so many beloved celebrities, from Hailey Bieber and Halle Berry to Megan Fox and Lady Gaga, have so many tattoos we not only love but have us adding to our inspo board ASAP!
But before you get going to a tattoo parlor for some new ink, know that celebs might have some tattoo regrets too. “I get some removed, I get some put back, it’s crazy,” tattoo-lover Zoë Kravitz told GQ in 2022. “I do think you should be like 35 before you get tattoos because you get them, and then you don’t like them anymore.”
With Kravitz’s advice in mind, take a look at some of our favorite tattooed celebrities below (and be warned, some of these might surprise you!)
Halle Berry
Back in 2019, Halle Berry surprised her fans by sharing a shirtless photo of her new back tattoo: a long vine along her spine. “Who says I’m not a mermaid 🧜♀️,” she wrote at the time on Instagram.
A few months later, she confessed to The Late Late Show host James Corden that it was all fake, per Refinery 29. “I am trying out different tattoos to see what will fit best for my character,” she said. “I’m discovering how long they will last, how much wear I would get out of one, so I know how much it’s all going to cost.”
Besides the temporary one, Berry’s got a few real tattoos on her body, including a flower on her butt.
Ayesha Curry
Ayesha Curry might not have the most tattoos on this list, but she’s got some of the most sentimental ones.
In 2019, for example, she shared with her fans the matching tattoo she and her husband Steph Curry got in honor of their children. The tattoos featured three geometric illustrations of animals.
“He luhhhhh matching my swag (***these are our babies signs we have for them). Each has a deeper meaning and representation to us,” she wrote on Instagram.
“Canon will always be our young wolf. Ryan our butterfly (this one makes me cry with joy just thinking about it) and Riley our horse (free-spirited, which we turned into a unicorn because she’s our magical firstborn),” she wrote. Will she get another one in honor of their fourth baby? We hope so!
In addition to the animals, Curry’s also got a tattoo of a tree on her arm, of a pineapple on her ankle, and the word “faithfully” on her forearm.
Hailey Bieber
While Hailey Bieber’s husband has a series of large, statement tattoos, Hailey herself has acquired quite a collection of small, delicate ones over the years. Among her tiny tats are stars on her fingers, a “New York” tattoo behind her ear, and a “J” tattoo with a sparkle on her ring fingers.
Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston only has two confirmed tattoos, but that’s still more than people might think.
Most famously, the Friends alum has “11 11” tattooed on her left wrist. According to People, the ink is in honor of her late Welsh Corgie-Terrier Norman, who died in 2011, and her birthday, February 11.
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie is one of the most tattooed women in Hollywood with tattoos of all shapes and sizes covering her body. In total, Jolie has over 20 tattoos ranging from small initials celebrating her loved ones to cultural tattoos that take up most of her back.
At the 2024 Tony Awards, Jolie surprised everyone as she debuted a new tattoo: a small bird atop her chest. Tasteful yet so so cool.
Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson has long surprised fans with just how many tattoos she has. Among her most noticeable ones are her back tattoos which include a vine of roses and a white lamb lying down. According to Pop Sugar, she also has several others including a bracelet tattoo on her right wrist, a sunrise tattoo on her forearm and an owl tattoo on her ribcage.
Zoë Kravitz
Back in November 2022, Zoë Kravitz admitted she quite literally lost count of how many tiny tattoos she has all over her body. At the time, she guessed around 30 to 40 altogether.
“I got my first tattoo when I was 18 because my parents wouldn’t let me get one until I was 18,” Kravitz told GQ. “I get some removed, I get some put back, it’s crazy.”
Among some of her tattoos are an eagle, a snake, a feather, a moon, her mom’s birthday, and the list goes on.
Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus is another star with so many small tattoos we’re sure she lost track. Among her most notorious tattoos are her nude Matisse illustration on her arm (pictured), the faces of her dogs, and a handwritten note by Yoko Ono saying “I’m proud of you, Yoko.”
Rihanna
Back in 2012, Rihanna made quite a statement when she got a large tattoo of the Egyptian goddess Iris across her ribcage. As she revealed at the time, the ink was in honor of her grandmother, Dolly.
“Goddess Isis – Complete Woman – Model for future generations – #GRANGRANDOLLY – always in and on my heart #1love,” the “Love on the Brain” singer wrote at the time, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Since then, she’s gotten many others including the henna design in her right hand, a constellation of stars on her back, and a falcon on her right ankle.
Megan Fox
Megan Fox has quite an array of tattoos on her body.
Most famously, Fox has a poem on her side reading “There once was a little girl, who never knew love until a boy broke her heart,” and a Friedrich Nietzsche quote saying, “And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music,” per Business Insider.
Cardi B
Unlike the small and delicate tattoos some of these celebrities love, Cardi B’s tattoos are so colorful and massive, that they’re hard to miss.
In addition to tattoos of her kids names, Wave and Kulture, the “WAP” singer also has a colorful flowers and butterflies design that decorates her body from the top of her back all the way down to the back of her left thigh. On the right thigh, she famously has a giant peacock tattoo that extends all the way to her knee.
Ariana Grande
Totally different from Cardi, Ariana Grande has a whopping 61 (and counting!) tiny tattoos, per Business Insider.
Among her tattoos are a crescent moon on her neck, the words “baby doll” and “honeymoon” on her middle fingers and a bee tattoo on her finger in honor of the tragic deaths that happened in the 2017 bombing attacks during her show in Manchester.
Cara Delevingne
Cara Delevingne doesn’t have a specific style when it comes to her tattoos, she has small and big ones, colorful ones and black-and-white ones, and so on.
Among her standout ink is the modern abstract portrait on her left arm, a watercolor rose on her ribcage, a colorful lion painting on her left forearm and a “Made in England” tattoo on her foot, per Pop Sugar.
Selena Gomez
Remember that pink watercolor tattoo Delevingne has? Well, Selena Gomez has it too! The best friends got their matching ink together back in 2022.
“Me and Cara [Delevingne], one of my best friends that I’ve known for — I was maybe 16 when I met her — she calls me ‘Rosebud,'” Gomez explained, per Billboard. “So, it’s a nickname and I’ve always wanted a rose. Now, I got one and I love it.”
Gomez also has at least 17 other known tattoos, including the word “Rare” behind her ear, “Love Yourself First” written on her back, and “sunshine” on her foot, per Business Insider.
Lady Gaga
With this photo alone, it’s safe to say Lady Gaga is quite unapologetic about showing off her tattoos. Among her most shown ones are her trumpet tattoo on her right arm, her Rainer Maria Rilke quote tattoo on her left arm, her David Bowie tattoo on her ribcage and her monster paw tattoo on her back. Per Cosmopolitan, the “Bad Romance” singer has over 24 all over her body.
Kelly Clarkson
Much like Bieber, Grande and Kravitz, Kelly Clarkson also has her fair share of tiny tattoos.
As of 2023, the TV host had 14 tattoos all over her body including her lyrics “What doesn’t kill you” in Morse code on her ribcage, the words “Love Them More” as well as a cross on her right wrist, a heart-shaped kite on her left wris and a colorful jigsaw puzzle piece on her back, per NBC.
