While Kamala Harris‘ campaign for presidency saw her beliefs, policies, and goals for the future of the United States, it also shined a light on her relationship with Doug Emhoff and their beautiful, blended family. After all, their family isn’t exactly what presidential families have looked like in the past.
But, nonetheless, Harris has stood by her family, including her stepkids Ella and Cole Emhoff, and they have bravely stood by her too.
“[My younger sister] Ella and I would laugh watching them fall in love, acting like teenagers,” Cole remembered in a touching video at the DNC in August. “In 2014, Kamala became Momala. She took over Sunday night dinners and taught Doug how to actually cook.”
“Our blended family wasn’t used to politics or the spotlight, but when Kamala became senator, we were all excited to step up, especially my dad,” he continued. “Then Kamala became Vice President. It felt like Doug was a bit out of place on Capitol Hill. I thought, ‘What is my goofy dad doing here?’ But he embraced it … I was so proud to watch him do it, to stand by her side, an example of true partnership.”

Newlywed Gala Night (2014)
On August 22, 2014, Harris and Emhoff tied the knot at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. A few months later, at the LACMA Art + Film Gala honoring Barbara Kruger and Quentin Tarantino, the two showed off their newlywed bliss.

Attending another art gala, this time at The Broad, Harris, who was the California Attorney General at the time, was all smiles with Emhoff. Smiles that are truly contagious!
Senate Swear Ins (2017)
On January 3, 2017, President Joe Biden (who was Vice President at the time) swore in Harris as California Senator. Right beside her was Emhoff who looked proudly at his wife as he held the bible.

Emhoff was right by Harris’ side when she hosted her first presidential campaign rally on Jan. 27, 2019. Also by her side was her adorable niece, Amara.
