Ah, yes. Who could possibly have made it through 2001 without sporting a pair of overalls? Today, not so much.
The lingo
Let’s make “slammin'” a thing again. What do you say? Circa ’01 Kerry Washington would be proud.
Zig-zag parts
Raise your hand if you think zig-zag parts went out of style simply because they took forever to master.
The moves
The shoulder dip may have gotten teens through 2001 dances but, hello, Step Up rendered this clutch move obsolete.
Super hoops
Like Stiles’ character, I rocked silver hoops so big in 2001 they could have doubled as bangles.
Butterfly clips
There were so many butterfly clips holding back hair in this movie, it’s possible they bought stock in ’em.
The disses
Exhibit A? The classic: “It’s an A and B conversation. You gotta go? C yourself home.”
Front tendrils
Amish-style front hair tendrils may be a running joke now, but we were all ’bout it, ’bout it back in the day.
The music
Q-Tip, Ice Cube, K-Ci & JoJo?! This soundtrack was tight. Tragically, kids today consider these “oldies” now.
Handkerchief tops
Save the Last Dance really capitalized on our ’01 obsession with handkerchief tops. I counted no less than four.
