Haley Reinhart’s new album Better is amazing; I am literally listening to it right now as I type out this slideshow. So many of the tracks just make me feel better about the workday (see what I did there?). So what better way to honor Reinhart than to get to know her even more? To celebrate #WomanCrushWednesday, we asked her about her biggest fears, life lessons and goals. Here’s what she had to say.
My puberty years
“I think the social aspect of puberty was the most difficult. There were so many mean girls in middle school I had to befriend. I may have looked the part, but my soul had always remained the same.”
My first job
“My first job… I worked at a pool four summers straight. It was such an amazing time. I got to engage with so many people and soak up the sun all at once. Pretty sweet!”
My experience with heartbreak
“With rejection comes clarity, rationality and, in turn, more opportunity. I may have had my little heart crushed once or twice back in the day, but it allowed me to take pride in who I am as an individual and understand my self-worth.”
My favorite ‘flaw’
“I got crap as a kid for having a so-called ‘froggy’ or ‘boyish’ voice. Funny thing is, I now get paid to voice as a young Bill Burr in the Netflix original series F Is for Family. Just call me little Bill!”
Advice I’d give to my younger self
“I would tell my younger self not to sweat the small stuff! Because in the grand scheme of things, I believe everything happens for a reason and the trivial things we hold on to only create stress. Ain’t nobody got time for that!”
My 10-year goals
“In 10 years, I plan on chilling by the oceanside in Bali, with a Grammy under my belt and my family beside me.”
My biggest fear
“I don’t really believe in having any. Maybe losing sight of my morals or who I am as a person/artist, which is the last thing I would ever let happen.”
Who I admire most
“I admire anyone in Hollywood who stays true to their unique self. Someone who takes what others may call a pipe dream and turns it into a reality. Someone who strives to send out positive messages into the universe without an ulterior motive behind their actions.”
The most positive influence in my life
“My lovely family and friends are the most positive people in my life. They are my support system and they always give me their unconditional love and support.”
How I’ve changed in my 20s
“My entire life has changed throughout my 20s! I went from living with my folks and [little] sis back in Chicago to being on the biggest live television show [and] putting out two albums, and now going on my first headlining tour. Dreams do come true.”
The biggest life lesson I’ve learned
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned in this life is that everything is temporary, in the best way! You can change anything you’d like to improve — yourself and your surroundings — at any point in time. Also, it’s better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. Meaning… take risks! If you want it, you can have it!”
And her final thoughts…
“Check out my album on iTunes and feel better!”
