Our favorite teen movie officially turns 30 on June 11, so we thought we’d share all the other films it influenced.
‘Deadpool’
If you stayed through the credits, you know the extra scene is exactly the same as the one from Ferris.
‘The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’
This emotional film also explores what happens when three teens dip their toes into the so-called “real world.”
‘Home Alone’
Also written by John Hughes, little Kevin is basically a pint-size version of the cheeky Ferris Bueller.
‘Baby’s Day Out’
Another screenplay from John Hughes, this is about a baby version of Ferris Bueller, who narrowly avoids big trouble.
‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’
From Kevin Smith, these characters also break the fourth wall by speaking directly to the audience, just like Ferris.
‘Juno’
This film features super-witty teen characters with fascinating dialogue that also inspired a generation.
‘Election’
Matthew Broderick comes full circle here by playing a teacher who gets masterfully manipulated by a student.
‘Paper Towns’
Another teen adventure about a sensitive high school boy where all the action takes place in one single day.
‘Easy A’
Olive makes references to several John Hughs movies and even makes her hair into a Mohawk in the shower.
’17 Again’
This body-switch movie lets Zac Efron’s character explore all the highlights of being in high school.
‘Expelled’
This movie is also about a popular high school prankster who can’t seem to follow school rules.
‘Fight Club’
Though not really a teen movie, the characters also talk directly to the audience and have lots of influence over others.
‘Parker Lewis Can’t Lose’
Clearly meant to compete with Ferris Bueller, this similar TV show lasted two years longer than the original.
‘Ferris Bueller’ TV show
The adorable Jennifer Aniston got her start on this TV show as Ferris’ sister, Jeannie. It lasted one season.
‘Limitless: Brian Finch’s Black Op’
This particular episode is full of Easter eggs that lead back to Ferris Buller.
Save Ferris band
This ska band’s name was taken from Ferris Bueller, clearly meant to be an homage to the teen classic.
