Long before his hilarious stints on 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live, Alec Baldwin was making his Broadway debut in the ’86 stage comedy “Loot.” He later went on to star in the Broadway shows “Serious Money,” “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “Twentieth Century” and “Orphans.”
Alicia Silverstone
We may always know and love Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz from the ’90s cult classic Clueless, but Silverstone also has enjoyed a pretty impressive stage career too. After debuting in 2003’s The Graduate alongside Jason Biggs (more on that in a bit) and Kathleen Turner, she landed roles in “Time Stands Still” and “The Performers.”
Aubrey O’Day
Most of us know Aubrey O’Day as the aspiring singer-slash-dancer who rose to fame on the 2005 P. Diddy-helmed show Making the Band 3. And while most of her work has remained in the reality TV realm, O’Day did score the role of Amber Von Tussle in the 2008 Broadway production of “Hairspray.”
Anthony Mackie
Could Captain America: Civil War star Anthony Mackie be any cooler? Apparently, yes — in addition to his super busy screen career, he also starred in Martin McDonagh’s “A Behanding in Spokane” at the Schoenfeld Theatre on Broadway.
Christina Applegate
Christina Applegate may have won over America’s heart as ditzy teen Kelly Bundy in the sitcom Married with Children, but she’s long since proved she has range to spare. This includes her 2005 turn in the title role of Broadway’s “Sweet Charity,” for which she received a Tony nomination.
Chris O’Dowd
In full disclosure, I adore Irish actor and comedian Chris O’Dowd (if you haven’t watched Moone Boy, go forth and do so ASAP). So it is with great regret I inform you he made his Broadway debut in 2014 in “Of Mice and Men,” and I did not see it. It must’ve been pretty darn good though, given he was nominated for a Tony for the role.
Colman Domingo
Colman Domingo may not have been a household name as a screen actor prior to his current role on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, but his stage career was actually quite prolific! His starring Broadway roles include the critically acclaimed rock musical “Passing Strange,” the revival of “Chicago” and in Kander and Ebb’s final collaboration, “The Scottsboro Boys” — for which he was nominated for a Tony in May 2011, along with a nod for the Fred Astaire Award for Best Principal Dancer on Broadway.
Daniel Craig
He may best be known as Bond, James Bond, but British actor Daniel Craig actually has a few Broadway roles under his acting belt too. In 2009, he starred opposite Hugh Jackman in “A Steady Rain,” and in 2013 he starred in Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal” opposite his wife, fellow thespian Rachel Weisz.
Elizabeth Berkley
Jessie Spano has been in a Broadway show?! That’s right — Saved By the Bell actress Elizabeth Berkley made her Broadway debut in 2004, starring as the silly young wife of the title character’s greedy accountant.
Grant Gustin
Grant Gustin is currently winning over audiences as The Flash on the CW series by the same name, but he actually got his start on Broadway. In fact, he left school to pursue the role of Baby John in the Broadway revival of “West Side Story,” which he performed in for a year.
David Hasselhoff
There’s a reason they say you shouldn’t hassle the Hoff — this man has done it all! In addition to his iconic stint on Baywatch as well as his many other memorable screen roles, Hasselhoff made his Broadway debut in 2000’s “Jekyll & Hyde” and has gone on to star in “Chicago” and “The Producers.”
Jason Biggs
Would you be surprised to learn that the same guy who brought us goofy Jim on American Pie and Larry Bloom on Orange is the New Black has appeared on Broadway three times? Yeah, me too… but ’tis true. Jason Biggs’ starring stage roles include “Conversations with My Father,” “The Graduate” and “The Play What I Wrote.”
Jennifer Garner
Girl-next-door Jennifer Garner made her Broadway debut in the 2008 production of “Cyrano de Bergerac.” She starred as Roxanne, opposite actor Kevin Kline in the title role.
Jena Malone
Jena Malone’s most memorable turn as of late for most of us may very well be her role as Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games film franchise, but Malone left a major impression on the Broadway crowd when she starred in 2006’s “Doubt.”
Jim Parsons
To be honest, it’s kind of hard to imagine Jim Parsons in any role other than that of genius Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory. However, in 2011, he starred as Tommy Boatwright in the Broadway play “The Normal Heart.”
John C. Reilly
How did I not know that hilarious character actor John C. Reilly was a major star on the stage too? Not only has he been in numerous Broadway productions — “True West,” “The Grapes of Wrath,” etc. — but he has also earned a Tony nomination for his stellar stage presence.
Lacey Chabert
You can’t very well think of Lacey Chabert without thinking about Party of Five and Mean Girls, but Chabert’s career actually kicked off on Broadway. When she was first breaking into the biz, Chabert played young Cosette (and sometimes even the male character Gavroche) for two years in the Broadway production of “Les Misérables.”
Kristen Bell
You love Kristen Bell. I love Kristen Bell. Who doesn’t love Kristen Bell? You undoubtedly already know she’s fantastic onscreen, but did you know she was also excellent onstage in the 2002 Broadway revival of “The Crucible” alongside Liam Neeson and Angela Bettis?
Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes has more than a few memorable roles to her acting credit — Dawson’s Creek, Batman Begins, The Kennedys, Ray Donovan — and that also includes a few stints on the stage. She made her Broadway debut in 2008’s “All My Sons” and popped up again in 2012’s “Dead Accounts.”
Mario Lopez
Hey-oh, whaddya know? Another Saved By The Bell alum who has spent time on the Broadway stage! Mario Lopez has an especially sweet Broadway story to boot too — he met his now-wife, Courtney Mazza, in 2008 when he made his Broadway debut in “A Chorus Line.”
Lauren Graham
Naturally, everyone is abuzz these days about Lauren Graham reprising her role as Lorelai Gilmore in the Netflix revival of Gilmore Girls. However, it should be noted the actor who played everyone’s favorite Stars Hollow resident (well, one of them) spent some time on Broadway in the 2009 revival of “Guys and Dolls.”
Melissa Joan Hart
Throughout her career, Melissa Joan Hart has enjoyed roles that were undeniably endearing to viewers, namely the title characters in Clarissa Explains It All; Sabrina, the Teenage Witch; and Melissa & Joey. One of her lesser-known roles? As understudy of three of the children in the National Actors Theater production of “The Crucible” on Broadway, starring Martin Sheen.
Pablo Schreiber
As crazy as it sounds, what I’m about to tell you is true: Pornstache is a Broadway star. Well, sort of. Pablo Schreiber, the actor who plays the unforgettably uncouth character on the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black, has appeared in “Desire Under the Elms” on Broadway as well as the Clifford Odets’ classic “Awake and Sing!” — the latter of which he received a Tony nomination for.
Sarah Hyland
Sarah Hyland has been starring as Haley Dunphy in Modern Family since 2009, but prior to landing that sweet gig, she appeared in both the Broadway and off-Broadway versions of “Grey Gardens” in the role of Jackie Bouvier. The production was nominated for several Tony awards.
Paul Rudd
Whoa, whoa, whoa… Paul Rudd, to whom I’ve pledged my eternal viewing devotion to, is a stage star too? His Broadway credits include “The Last Night of Ballyhoo,” “Twelfth Night,” “Three Days of Rain” and “Grace.” Swoon.
Orlando Bloom
Orlando Bloom clearly impressed someone when he tackled the title male role in the 2013 Broadway revival of “Romeo and Juliet” — he and Condola Rashad’s modern adaptation of the Broadway stage production was broadcast in movie theaters in 2014.
Ty Burrell
Like his TV daughter Sarah Hyland, Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell has also taken time away from film productions to star in a stage production. For his part, he appeared in a Broadway revival of “Macbeth.”
Scarlett Johansson
She sings, she slays in movies and she shines on the stage? C’mon, Scarlett… you’re making us look bad. In fact, Johansson won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play following her Broadway debut in the 2010 adaptation of Arthur Miller’s “A View from the Bridge.” She has also starred as Maggie in the Broadway revival of the literary classic “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.”
Sebastian Stan
Gossip Girl fans know him as Carter Baizen. Once Upon a Time fans know him as the Mad Hatter. And Captain America fans know him as Winter Soldier. But Romanian-born actor Sebastian Stan has another recent role to be proud of: His 2013 turn in Broadway’s “Picnic.”
