Some of your favorite soap stars can deliver the drama during the day and croon a tune at night. Find out who did double duty as a singer and as an actor.
Bobbie Eakes’ love
Bobbie Eakes starred on The Bold and the Beautiful, but she also released an album in Europe and sang backup for Kenny Loggins. Aside from the 27 songs streaming on Spotify, her No. 1 hit “It’s Your Love” will take you back.
Before the Fugees
Lauryn Hill played a troubled teen on As the World Turns back in 1991. Little did fans know that five years later she would be at the top of the charts with the Fugees and their hit song, “Killing Me Softly.” That success did take a dark turn when she served prison time for tax evasion in 2013, but Hill is now out of jail and back making music where she belongs.
Sizzling singer
Ricky Martin was only known for his work on Menudo when he starred on GH in 1994. His explosive single, “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” turned him into a global superstar in 1999. Martin later admitted in his 2011 book, Me, that he found his time on the soap to be an isolating time for him and he lacked chemistry with the rest of the cast.
Incredible music career
Gloria Loring was only on DOOL for five years, but her music career has spanned decades. From her 1986 duet with Carl Anderson, “Friends and Lovers,” (which is her No. 1 song on Spotify) to composing the theme songs to Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life with ex-husband Alan Thicke, Loring is legit. Good luck getting The Facts of Life theme song out of your head.
Uncle Jesse can sing
John Stamos has won fans over with his impeccable hair and dazzling smile through the years, but have you heard him sing?! Well, aside from with Jesse & the Rippers, of course. John Stamos actually released his own music in 1994 and then hit the sand by playing with The Beach Boys over the years.
So dreamy
The former All My Children star has had musical success with the group Dream Street and as a solo artist. If you didn’t remember Jesse McCartney as the young JR Chandler on AMC, you certainly know his work with Disney if you have young daughters at home. This former teen superstar has all his music available on Spotify.
A Christmas album
Days of Our Lives actress Jen Lilley put out a Christmas album in 2015 called Tinsel Time. She even sang a little ditty for SheKnows’ Soaps during the Day of Days Fan Event last November. Now that she’s exiting DOOL, she has promised fans that she’s working on an original album after the success of the holiday record.
Straight to Nashville
As much as fans want Jonathan Jackson back on GH as Lucky Spencer, he’s enjoying his time on Nashville and put out some great country tunes. Now that Nashville has left ABC, we think Jackson is going to find the show’s new home, CMT, the perfect place to hone his musical style.
Rock on
Former The Young and the Restless star Michael Damian had a huge hit in 1989 with the single “Rock On.” At the time, he was one of the biggest soap stars on daytime TV, and his crossover to music only fueled his passion for directing. Damian recently took his talents behind the lens with the movie High Strung, which combined his love of music with his wife’s talents as a dancer. If you want to hear more of his work, he now has tons of music available on Spotify.
Country roots
Kassie DePaiva has a long history with soaps, but this talented woman got her start as a country solo artist at the Grand Ole Opry. With three albums available for streaming on Spotify, her top song is “Baby Mine.” We don’t know if she will return to DOOL after exiting in February, but let’s hope she croons a country tune again.
Jessie’s Girl
As Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital, Rick Springfield was wildly popular. His success only got bigger with his fifth studio album (currently on Spotify) that went platinum: Working Class Dog. Everyone wanted to be “Jessie’s Girl” that year. Springfield has returned to GH over the years, but his music career continues to be his top priority. And hey, working with Meryl Streep in 2015’s Ricki and the Flash certainly wasn’t a bad career move either.
And last but not least, Frisco Jones
General Hospital had a lot of musical hits with its cast during the 1980s. Jack Wagner was no exception with his 1984 single “All I Need.” His appearance on Solid Gold promoting the single only fueled his popularity. His last album “On the Porch” was released in 2014, and he’s still melting soap fans’ hearts on the Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart.
