Watching Ghostbusters this weekend and loved the original? Keep an eye out for these Easter eggs and throwbacks. But be warned: a few small spoilers ahead!
Secret website
At the top center of this equation is a website, ParanormalStudiesLab.com, that tells you all about the tech.
Ghosts from Our Past
Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Abby Yates’s (Melissa McCarthy) book from the film is available on Amazon.
Harold Ramis
Just outside Dean Filmore’s office is a golden bust modeled after Ramis, who passed away in 2014.
Homage to Rick Moranis
Though Rick Moranis didn’t return for a cameo, McCarthy’s brain-scanning hat was clearly inspired by the original.
Firehouse from the original
Because it’s 2016 and the rents in New York are so high, the new Ghostbusters can’t afford to rent the old Firehouse.
The original song
Director Paul Feig insisted on using the original version of the song “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker, Jr.
Katie Dippold’s cameo
Screenwriter Dippold plays the real estate agent who eventually finds them office space in a Chinese restaurant.
Bill Murray’s cameo
Murray returns as Martin Heiss, a career paranormal skeptic and tries to debunk Erin and Abby’s work.
Ecto 1 gets pimped
Instead of an ambulance, the new Ghostbusters drive a pimped-out 1980’s Cadillac Hearse.
Ernie Hudson’s cameo
Hudson returns to play Patty’s (Leslie Jones) Uncle Bill who provides them with a hearse from his funeral home.
“That’s a big Twinkie”
Winston’s (Ernie Hudson) famous line makes its way into an advertisment in Times Square.
Key Lime Slime
Finally! The perfect snack to enjoy while hunting for ghosts.
Stay Puft Marshmallow Man
The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man makes his own cameo in the film, but is easily defeated with some old-school tech.
Slimer
Also returning is Slimer, the green, gooey ghost, next to the same hot dog stand he attacked in the 1984 film.
Dan Ackroyd as the cabbie
For Ackroyd’s cameo, he’s dressed exactly like the zombie cab driver from the 1984 movie.
‘Exorcist’ reference
Abby gets posessed, causing her head to spin all the way around in a circle, just like Regan in The Exorcist.
Annie Potts’ Cameo
Potts returns as the desk clerk at the Mercado Hotel, where supernatural action is about to take place.
“Whaddya want”
Kevin (Chris Hemsworth), gets mileage out of the line “Whaddya want” made famous by Janine (Annie Potts).
Homage to Michael Jackson
The dance scene during the end credits is very similar to the dance in Jackson’s “Thriller” video from 1983.
Holzmann’s retro look
McKinnon stole New Waver Thomas Dolby’s look.
Ozzy Osbourne’s cameo
To add to the 1980s nostalgia, Osbourne plays himself, performing at a rock concert.
Sigourney Weaver’s cameo
Weaver shows up at the end of the film as Holtzmann’s mentor, Rebecca Gorin.
Zuul
If you wait through the credits, there’s a little scene that makes reference to Zuul, the demon that started it all.
