The Season 2 finale of Scream has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean we can’t discuss the fact the episode channeled Scream 2 throughout the hour. There were several moments that die-hard fans of the horror franchise probably recognized, but here they are just in case you didn’t catch them the first time around.
The police car
Audrey and Emma’s experience getting stuck inside the police car on the show was just like what Sidney and Hallie went through in the movie. Granted, Audrey and Emma didn’t have to crawl over the killer (they were actually freed by the killer) to escape, but it still was very similar.
The movie theater
The opening scene of Scream 2 inside the movie theater with Omar Epps and Jada Pinkett Smith has to be one of the most memorable scenes of the entire Scream series. Maybe that’s why the second season finale chose to host most of the episode inside the movie theater where Audrey worked. It wasn’t quite as bloody as the film, but it still served as an honorable tribute.
Mickey & Kieran’s hair
Let’s face it, Kieran was totally channeling Mickey’s hair. Right?
The meeting of the killers
Just like how Mickey and Billy’s mom met/knew one another, Kieran and Piper were also close, aka in a relationship. Mickey and Mrs. Loomis weren’t involved romantically, but they were connected. Killers always have a strong bond, which Kieran, Piper, Mickey, and Mrs. Loomis all demonstrated.
The book
Based on the murders, Gale Weathers wrote a book. Well, at the end of Scream Season 2, Ms. Lang was shown writing a book about Lakewood’s murders and killers, too. She has nothing on Courteney Cox’s character, but she never gave up, was almost killed and did whatever it took for her research. Yeah, that sounds like Gale.
Believe him or not?
When Stavo came to the movie theater to see Brooke and she wouldn’t let him in (hey, he might’ve been the killer), it was eerily similar to when Sidney found Derek tied up in the theater. Her first instict was to help him down, but then she wasn’t so sure. Obviously, Derek wasn’t the killer and ended up dying. The same can be said for Stavo, save for he is still very much alive.
The projector room
Remember when Dewey went to check out the projector room after the killer played video footage of Gale and Dewey on the screen at the college’s theater? That’s pretty much exactly what happened in the second season finale. Not only did the killer play footage of the murders in front of Emma and her friends, but Emma, like Dewey, went to investigate the projector room. It truly gave off major Scream 2 vibes.
The deputy gets hurt
It was hard to watch Dewey get stabbed by Ghostface in front of Gale in Scream 2. Luckily, he survived. Well, the deputy driving the police car with Emma and Audrey didn’t have the same luck, because he was gutted by the killer. Why is it always the deputy who gets hurt?
