Going through a major life change is never easy, but it’s even harder when you do it in the public eye, much like Bruce Jenner is doing now. These celebs have been super-harsh while speaking out about and judging Jenner’s reported gender transition.
Jamie Foxx
The actor made some incredibly insensitive and rude jokes about Jenner while hosting the iHeartRadio Awards in March.
Doyle Brunson
“I can’t believe Bruce Jenner is trying to become a woman? He was a hero of mine since I was involved in track long ago. #Sayitsnottrue,” tweeted the poker legend in February, adding, “this man was an Olympic champion that set all kind of records. That’s a woman? My hero? Come on!”
Wendy Williams
“Thank God he waited for his kids to grow up before making this transition or whatever he’s going through,” Williams said on her show. “Can you imagine how awful it would be for those kids if he showed up with a blowout, a shaved Adam’s apple, pink nail polish and smoking a cigarette at a PTA meeting? Could you imagine?” To her credit, Williams did add, “All I know is that I’m happy for him because he’s able to live his own truth.”
Kevin Hart
When it was his turn to roast Justin Bieber at the recent Comedy Central shindig, Hart took a very unfunny route. “There were rumors that Justin [was] dealing with Kendall Jenner, and that shocked me! I was like, ‘What the f***.’ That’s what I said, ‘What the f***.’ I was like, ‘You gonna deal with a Jenner, I thought it would be Bruce! That’s what I thought!’” he said.
Will Ferrell
Ferrell also made a joke at the Bieber roast at Jenner’s expense. “You Bruce Jenner Hollywood hermaphrodites! That’s all you people are!” Ferrell said, in character as Ron Burgundy.
Jeff Ross
Ferrell and Hart weren’t the only ones to bash Jenner at the Bieber roast. “If you two get married, who is going to walk you down the aisle?” Ross said to Bieber about Kendall, according to USA Today. “The only male left in the Kardashian clan is Khloé.”
Jill Soloway
In another case of a joke gone wrong, the Transparent creator posted an image of Jenner on Facebook and referred to him as “Transdashian.” After catching heat from the transgender community, Soloway apologized, saying, “I made a mistake; it was horrible judgment. My complacency is checked and it won’t happen again,” according to Slate.
Barry Williams
Williams, aka Greg Brady of The Brady Bunch, made a series of insensitive comments about Jenner in February on HuffPost Live while promoting his own reality show, A Very Barry Branson, and suggested Jenner was “going transgender” to get more publicity for his reality show. “That guy is committed. He is committed to promoting himself. And I’m thinking, maybe, I don’t know, I could say, I’m just saying, if this thing doesn’t work, and the series isn’t doing as well as I want, I’m going transgender,” he said.
Jimmy Kimmel
In February 2014, the talk-show host made fun of Jenner’s appearance by creating a fake Facebook “look back” video. The segment featured pics from 2004 captioned “When you were a man,” suggests that Jenner has a vision board with cats, rainbows and unicorns, and showed a more recent photo captioned “Now you’re our weird Aunt Bess.”
“In Touch”
In Touch might not be a celebrity per se, but they are a well-known publication that put this photoshopped and incredibly distasteful photo of Jenner on the cover of their magazine at the beginning of 2015.
Cecily Strong
During an edition of “Weekend Update,” both Strong and her then-cohost Seth Meyers made fun of Bruce and Kris Jenner’s impending divorce, but Strong crossed the line when she said, “Bruce and Kris Jenner confirmed this week that they’re getting divorced. ‘It’s sad, but I’m excited to start my new life as a single, middle-aged woman,’ said Bruce.”
