Some don’t have any godparents, and some see their godparents all the time: it completely varies between each family’s relationship. Per Britannica, a godparent is typically a religious act where the parents of a child pick a “sponsor” to help raise their child if they pass. However, it’s become more of a mainstream type of act to show the bond between one another, where good friends appoint one another as godparents to their kids. For quite a few celebrities, they have some legendary, superstar godparents in their lives.

The godparent’s responsibilities range from each family’s beliefs, but the general notion is that they’re another pair of parental figures to help raise their godchildren.

It’s quite crazy how many celebrities are kind of related to one another. The late Michael Jackson was one of two godfathers to a certain Simple Life actress, and Jackson’s daughter Paris also has a loving godfather (that we guarantee will surprise you). There are so many more unexpected  connections than you’d expect, but it’s even more fascinating once you dive in.

And honestly, how lucky are these celebrities? We’d love to have Dolly Parton as a godmother.

See which celebrities are the proud godparents to other beloved celebrities below.
