Be sure to take note of these Gilmore Girls Easter eggs while binge-watching the entire series.
He wasn’t the first ‘Rygalski’
The episode: “Secrets and Loans,” Season 2, Episode 11
The egg: Before Adam Brody came on as Lane’s love interest, Dave Rygalski, Lorelai dealt with a banker named “Mr. Regalski”, who she was hoping would give her a loan to fix her termite problem at home. Unfortunately, this “Regalski” wouldn’t give Lorelai the loan. Even though the spelling is different here, there’s a chance the subtitles are wrong and this particular “Regalski” is actually Dave’s dad. Hey, you never know.
That’s not Kirk
The episodes: “The Lorelais’ First Day at Chilton,” Season 1, Episode 2; “Kill Me Now,” Season 1, Episode 3
The eggs: Before Sean Gunn became known to the world as the eccentric Kirk, he played two different characters. In the second episode of Season 1, he played “Mick,” a DSL installer hired by Emily to install DSL in Lorelai’s house even though she didn’t want it. In the third episode of the first season, he played “Swan Man,” the guy who delivered swans to the Independence Inn for a wedding.
This anagram
The episode: Throughout the entire series
The egg: Lane’s band, Hep Alien, is actually an anagram for Gilmore Girls producer Helen Pai.
That’s not coffee
The episode: Every single episode
The egg: You know how much Lorelai and Rory love coffee? Well, Alexis Bledel hates coffee in real life, so whenever you see her “drinking” coffee, she’s actually drinking Coke.
The same beginning and end
The episodes: “Pilot,” Season 1, Episode 1; “Bon Voyage,” Season 7, Episode 22
The egg: Did you ever notice that the final scene of both the very first episode and the series finale are exactly the same? Lorelai and Rory are sitting inside Luke’s (with Luke behind them) enjoying a meal and coffee together. What a perfect way to begin and end a fantastic series, right?
Where did he go?
The episode: “The Big One,” Season 3, Episode 16
The egg: At the end of Season 2, Brad Langford (played by Adam Wylie) disappears from Chilton, but he makes a triumphant return in Season 3. Upon his return, Brad tells everyone he was absent because he was starring on Broadway. Funnily enough, Wylie left the series to star in Broadway’s 2002 version of Into the Woods, where he played Jack.
“California!”
The episode: “Say Goodnight, Gracie,” Season 3, Episode 20
The egg: At the end of Season 3, Dave Rygalski left Stars Hollow and moved to California with his parents. Around that same time, Adam Brody departed the series because he scored a role in The O.C. as Seth Cohen. So, really, he did leave for California.
She sure looks familiar
The episode: “Here Comes the Son,” Season 3, Episode 21
The egg: Before coming on as Anna Nardini (April’s mom) in Season 6, Sherilyn Fenn played Sasha, Jess’ father’s girlfriend, in the episode where Jess goes to Venice, California. This was also the backdoor pilot for the failed GG spinoff starring Milo Ventimiglia as Jess, which would have revolved around his relationship with his father Jimmy.
The many faces of Alex Borstein
The episode: “Here Comes the Son,” Season 3, Episode 21
The egg: Throughout the entire first season, Alex Borstein played Drella, the harpist at the Independence Inn. Well, in Season 3, she also took on the role of Miss Celine, Emily’s stylist. Another fun fact is that Borstein was orginally cast as Sookie St. James and was once married to Jackson Douglas, aka Gilmore Girls‘ Jackson Belleville.
Sophie Bloom sings too
The episode: “Help Wanted,” Season 2, Episode 20
The egg: Remember Sophie Bloom? She ran Stars Hollow’s music store and was the woman who allowed Lane to practice on the drums in her store. Well, she is played by the extremely talented Carole King, who also just happens to sing the GG theme song, “Where You Lead,” with her own daughter, Louise Goffin. How appropriate is that? King also wrote the theme song fans will never forget.
The many jobs of Kirk
The episode: The entire series
The egg: Ever notice that Kirk never just had one job throughout the entire series? Well, according to Decider, Kirk had 62 different jobs over the course of Gilmore Girls, including a termite inspector, a beauty shop clerk, a dog walker and a firewood delivery man.
Gil’s real-life music experience
The episode: “The Festival of Living Art,” Season 4, Episode 7
The egg: He appeared in more than one episode, but Sebastian Bach first showed up in Season 4, Episode 7 as Gil, the guitarist Lane eventually chooses to join Hep Alien. For those unaware, Bach is a real musician, who was part of the band Skid Row.
