On Dec. 10, Billboard honored the most influential women in music, from Madonna to Kesha. It was a night of memorable moving performances and powerful one-liners.
The Women in Music 2016 event, airing on Lifetime at 9/8c, was held in conjuction with the publication of Billboard’s Women in Music list, which identifies the 50 most powerful female execs in the industry. The event honored Madonna, Andra Day, Shania Twain, Halsey, Meghan Trainor, Maren Morris, Kesha and Alessia Cara.
Madonna
Madonna, Woman of the Year, gave a raw, passionate speech revealing exactly what it means to be a woman.
Halsey
Rising Star honoree Halsey had a message for any and all young women who want to pursue their dreams.
Shania Twain
Shania Twain accepted the Icon Award and gave Kesha a shout-out: “I want to thank Kesha for being so open-hearted.”
Kesha
Kesha accepted the Trailblazer Award and told the roomful of women, “Don’t let anyone take your happiness.”
Andra Day
Andra Day accepted the Powerhouse Award and gave a beautiful performance of “Rise Up.”
Alessia Cara
Rule Breaker Award recipient Alessia Cara said, “It’s crazy to think that there are rules to be broken in self-expression in the first place.”
Maren Morris
Country artist Maren Morris accepted the Breakthrough Star Award.
Bozoma Saint John
Bozoma Saint John, the head of global consumer marketing for iTunes and Apple Music, accepted the Executive of the Year Award.
