Harrison Ford has spent the last forty-something years in Hollywood cultivating a bona fide action star persona. He’s a daredevil by trade and devilishly handsome to boot. Yet there are times when Ford has gotten a bit big for his britches and maybe taken a risk too risky for even one of the world’s most badass action stars.
Ford recently had a brush with death, but this is not the first time he’s almost met the Grim Reaper. Ford’s been cutting it close for years. This dude doesn’t play it safe. I mean, who needs seatbelts and safety regulations when you’re Harrison “Mr. Risky” Ford?
1993: ‘The Fugitive’ leaves a mark
Ford continued to do his own stunt work in films and a decade after his disastrous stunt experiences on the Indiana Jones set, he put himself to the test on 1993's The Fugitive. While he wasn't wrangling snakes or running away from boulders, The Fugitive did have a hefty amount of running from various nefarious humans. Ford actually damaged some ligaments during filming these kinds of scenes.
While Ford made it evident up until this point that he likes to go hard at work, this kind of intensity could really amount to some serious damage on the body later on. But did that slow Ford down? Hell no.
2000: The non-perks of being a pilot
Ford has been flying since he was in his 20s but he's had more than his fair share of pilot-related problems over the years. In 2000, while he was piloting a Beechcraft Bonanza plane (a decently sized private plane), Ford was forced to make an emergency landing in Nebraska. Reports indicate that chopping winds had messed with the wings of the plane. Who knows whether that weather could have proven more dangerous than initially reported; it could have spelled trouble for Ford.
2001: A rescue mission gets dangerous
It turns out Harrison Ford is lowkey a hero IRL, just like he is on the big screen. In 2001, Ford went on his second rescue mission to assist a stranded Boy Scout in Yellowstone National Park. This was not the first time he risked his own life (and limbs) for the good of his fellow man.
2014: ‘The Force Awakens’ an epic injury
The on-set injuries, an ever present pattern in Ford's professional life, continued with great vigor while filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Not doubt he was excited to be back in the intergalactic wonder of the world of Star Wars, but that doesn't mean he had to go and get wild and injure himself while filming! Just kidding, it was reportedly an accident, so it's not exactly his fault he got hurt.
Apparently Ford fell on set while filming The Force Awakens and broke his leg. The injury was attempted to be written off as a minor incident by Ford, director J.J. Abrams, and others but reports indicate the injury could have straight-up killed Ford. According to testimony from a Disney-owned production company under investigation at the time, Ford's accident was serious: "Milton Keynes magistrates court heard how the hydraulic spaceship door was operated by another person and that as the actor passed beneath it, he was hit hard in the pelvis and pinned to the floor. Ford was then airlifted to hospital in Oxford."
2015: The plane landing gone awry
Ford's second plane-related run-in with near-death happened close to the runway (planes, not models, folks). While the incident happened two years ago, Harrison's crash landing on a golf course in L.A.is still in the process of being settled. Back in 2015, Ford had to emergency land on a golf course when his personal, solo plane trip didn't go as planned. Reportedly, Ford attempted to land on a nearby designated runway when he had mechanical issues. Ford was forced to divert the WWII-era plane that he was flying and crash landed. Luckily, Ford walked away from the scene relatively unharmed and in good condition.
2017: Planes & Harrison Ford don’t get along
Ford's nasty crash landing in 2015 didn't stop him from hopping back into the cockpit (like it would, oh I don't know, with normal people).
Earlier this year, Ford was out flying when he was, according to Deadline, involved in an incident at the John Wayne Airport in Orange County. NBC reported that "[Ford] was at the controls of a single-engine Husky when he was instructed to land on a particular runway. Ford mistakenly headed for a taxiway instead, and his plane passed above a commercial 737 with 110 passengers and a six-person crew aboard. No one was hurt and American Airlines Flight 1546 was able to leave for Dallas minutes later."
Let's just hope luck keeps swinging in Ford's favor because God knows he likes to get himself into some Final Destination shit.
Whoa.
