It’s hard to believe it’s only been a few short months since Beyoncé gave us the gift of a twin pregnancy, but in that time, there have been thousands of theories, hunches and hints to discuss. In this slideshow, we walk you through the photographs that inspired each one.
The baby announcement
Beyoncé broke the internet when she announced her pregnancy to the world on Feb. 1. And she was not only pregnant, but pregnant with twins! Unlike her low-key pregnancy with Blue Ivy, this time Beyoncé’s bump was featured front and center in the photo announcement, giving experts and amateurs alike plenty to ponder.
Beyoncé’s Grammy bump
Twelve days after her double-whammy announcement, Bey absolutely slayed at the Grammys in her first performance with her twin-baby bump. The performance and accompanying pictures had many making guesses about Beyoncé’s due date.
Another shot
Bey’s Instagram announcement and performance at the Grammys had many saying that she was around four months pregnant. She would have been at least 12 weeks along when she announced her pregnancy because many women wait until they pass the three-month mark before sharing the news with family and friends, but some experts initially estimated that Bey was further along — around 16 weeks when she first announced her pregnancy — meaning a due date around July 19 if she carries to full term.
Beyoncé’s green Instagram video
On March 1, exactly a month after dropping the Big News, Bey posted a video to Instagram giving us an update on her growing belly. In the video montage, she is clad in a vibrant green dress en route to the Oscars. The dress and closeups of jewelry had Insta fans guessing that she was dropping hints about baby names — “90% sure she’s naming one child Jewel or Ruby or Diamond,” remarked one commenter.
Another green dress
On March 8, Beyoncé gave fans another look at her growing babies by posting an upbeat Instagram video featuring photos of the singer looking considerably rounder. She also added fuel to the color-conspiracy fire by once again wearing a bright green dress, causing rumors about green-themed baby names to flood the internet. Jade? Sage? Olive? Forest? The Beyhive was buzzing about green for weeks.
Back in black
On March 14, Beyoncé struck again, posting another photo of herself looking gorgeous in a tight black dress. It wasn’t long before the Beyhive noticed something else in the photo, however: her earrings. Turns out they were the same ones she wore in her “If I Were a Boy” music video, sparking speculation that she was hinting that at least one of the babies is a boy.
Blue and flowers
Bey’s blue dress had many placing bets for boys. Her most recent Instagram photo shows the singer looking lush in a rich blue dress, and while she wore blue throughout her first pregnancy and ended up naming her daughter after the color, fans today are fairly convinced that Bey’s steering us in the direction of twin boys.
Two blue hearts
On April 4, Beyoncé and Jay Z’s wedding anniversary, she posted this photo and captioned it with two blue hearts surrounding the date “4.4.17.” Initially, many thought that it was too basic for Bey to be planting blue for boys (after all, gendered colors have never really been her thing. Her daughter isn’t Pink Ivy), but the two blue hearts seem to be speaking volumes.
The due date
While experts have predicted a due date around July 19, the Carters’ joint obsession with the number 4 (as evidenced by their matching roman numeral IV tattoos, their April 4, 2004, wedding date, and Blue’s middle name “Ivy” sounding like the roman numeral IV) has some deep thinkers suspecting that Beyoncé is actually due in August.
Why? Well, because August is the eighth month and there are two babies: 4+4=8, of course.
Not that we’re doubting Bey, but could she really have planned it that perfectly? We’ll just have to see!
