Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have been through a lot — heck, they put us through a lot too. First, they announced they were splitting (which was so unexpected to say the least). Then they postponed the divorce and sparked reunion rumors. Then they broke up again. It was rough! But eventually, we all had to face the music — the Affleck and Garner we knew were gone. Sure, they remained cordial and continued to co-parent in a very mature way, but there would be no more red carpet PDA or random public kissing. It was time for everyone — including us — to move on.
Which we did, and we’ve done quite swiftly, but today marks what would have been their 13th wedding anniversary, so we had to take a moment to look back at the cutest Ben & Jen GIFs and pics because in the end, all hope is never lost.
When 2 became 1
Affleck and Garner tied the knot in 2005 in a “beautiful, private wedding,” Garner told People. “I couldn’t be happier.”
They were madly in love
Back in 2010, Affleck gushed about Garner telling Ellen DeGeneres, “I am madly in love. I have the best family.”
The love will never really end
Affleck adored Garner, and while their marriage ended, the love didn’t. Garner admitted not long ago that he is still the love of her life.
They’re both just really nice
Garner talked to Marie Claire about marriage in 2007 saying, “One thing that makes it not not work is that we’re both pretty nice.”
They were best friends
Garner could always make Affleck smile, and she told The Houston Chronicle in 2009, “We talk to each other endlessly.”
Madly in love
At the 2013 Golden Globes, Affleck told Access Hollywood, “She’s the most beautiful woman out there.”
Some teams don’t last forever
When the two appeared on SNL in 2013, Affleck told Garner, “I couldn’t do any of the things I do without you… You’re my angel, my life, my world.”
Tall, dark & handsome
When Affleck was crowned Sexiest Man Alive in 2002, Garner said, “He’s your basic tall, dark and handsome. He’s it. You want him to save you.”
No regrets
Even though it wasn’t forever, Garner told Vanity Fair, “I didn’t marry the big fat movie star; I married him. And I would go back and remake that decision.”
They’re still friends
In March 2016, Affleck told CBS This Morning that Garner is “somebody that I admire and respect and remain excellent friends with.”
Cue the waterworks
Excuse us while we go and cry now. Ben and Jen, you will forever be in our hearts.
