Whatever you think of football and whatever you think of Tom Brady as a football player, you’ve got to give it to the NFL Pro-Bowler when it comes to parenthood. The possible all-time greatest quarterback might also be in the running for most awesome dad if Instagram has anything to say about it.
Brady, who is turning 40 today, has three children: almost-10-year-old Jack, who he had with his ex-girlfriend, actor Bridget Moynahan, as well as 7-year-old Ben and 4-year-old Vivian, who he is raising with wife, supermodel and activist Gisele Bündchen.
We’ve seen plenty of pictures of Brady holding a football in mid-throw and staring determinedly at the end zone. Let’s take a look at some pics of the future Hall of Famer holding it down as a father.
Not a professional tackle, thank God
Is that natural turf? Either way, we dare you not to say, “Awww,” as you peer at this super-cute moment between Brady and all three of his kids. We just hope that he didn’t put 100 percent into the tackle and that it wasn’t fourth down.
Decking the halls
Superstar athletes are just like us, possibly getting frustrated while trying to wrestle lights onto the Christmas tree. Brady doesn’t pay anyone to put up his holiday decorations (at least the ones on the tree). Instead, he has the help of his angel in amazing My Little Pony slippers, Vivian.
Taking the kids to work
This is no ordinary Take Your Kids to Work Day. Ben and Vivian are sporting mass-produced jerseys that have their dad’s name on them and walking around with one of the most recognizable professional football players in the world. Hope they got to meet all of their father’s colleagues and a few of his bosses.
Playdates that look like maybe training sessions?
If your dad is Tom Brady, don’t be surprised if some of your playdates turn into super-fun obstacle courses and if roughhousing is encouraged. We can’t help but wonder if Gisele was annoyed to find out a mattress had been dragged outside, but something tells us it’s a quirk she loves about him.
Getting his hands dirty
Brady is not a dad that just runs around outside — he understands that getting your hands dirty in the kitchen is just as necessary as dragging a mattress outside to climb on. Here he is with Ben making Bündchen’s grandmother’s special biscuits for Thanksgiving and making a huge, delightful mess.
Time for a silly face break…
Another vital component of being an on-point father: the ability to get silly. It looks like he might have gotten both his hat and his sunglasses stolen just moments before, but Brady is still able to put on a very, very good face. Ben’s isn’t half bad either. Also, we badly want a pair of those dinosaur sweatpants.
Not fumbling a nap
Our hearts! Everyone knows the very best times in parenthood are when your children are fast asleep. Brady captured this moment with Vivian snoozing under a blanket on his chest, and we just about died. Also, very good portrait of Brady’s chin dimple.
The best part of winning the Super Bowl?
Even in his biggest moments of glory, Brady seems to know what is the most important: loving and supporting his family and friends. We love that in this picture from the Patriot’s victory at Super Bowl LI, with pure pandemonium happening all around, Vivian is just completely focused on loving her father.
Snuggling & watching TV with Dad
Some of the best father-daughter moments are the simple times, like a morning spent hanging out on the couch and watching some television. Sure, we probably weren’t watching sports programming starring our dads, but it was great quality time. Here’s Brady and Vivian catching a game (and the return of those amazing My Little Pony slippers!).
He can also make pretty amazing sandcastles
What can’t this father do? While this sandcastle is pretty untraditional and does not include a moat, we think it’s pretty cool. And we love how the whole family is contributing. Also, do they have this beach to themselves!? Also, Brady might be a dad, but we can’t say that he has a dad bod. At all. Holy cow.
Every dad needs a good lap game
A good dad has a great lap. Not only do we like the high skill level of snuggling taking place here, but we also appreciate the kiss chain that’s happening. We should also take a moment to focus on those very nice hardwood floors. It has nothing to do with Brady as a parent, but those are just beautiful.
Halloween participation is key
A good dad takes you out trick-or-treating for Halloween. A great dad dresses up before you leave. We love everything about this picture, from a very sleepy Nemo to a very tiny Incredible Hulk to two very involved and enthusiastic parents.
It can’t all be about American football
What do you do if your entire professional life is consumed by football, but your little girl plays that other kind of football? Well, then you play that other kind of football. In fact, you might even let her get a goal or two despite your hilariously competitive nature.
Bedtime kisses
Hooray for Brady and all dads who manage to be around for bedtime even when they have busy schedules. Not only do you get lots of goodnight hugs and kisses, but you also get to see some really adorable pajamas. Happy 40th birthday! We wish you more Super Bowl rings than fingers.
