‘Tis the season to eat too much, drink eggnog, give presents and have nervous breakdowns be jolly!
But let’s be real for a minute: sometimes, the hardest yet most rewarding part of the holiday season is giving gifts. Sure, fighting crowds at stores can be a pain, but seeing the look on your loved ones’ faces when you get them something truly special is a feeling that can’t be replaced. It’s probably why I go a little overboard every year (and purposefully forget I set a budget. Oy!).
But the best gifts really come in all shapes, sizes and prices, as proven by these 12 celebrities. Their favorite presents run the gamut from homemade gifts to extravagant trips and cars, and most of the time, it’s not the gifts themselves that matter — it’s the meaning behind them.

Alison Sweeney
Alison Sweeney, executive producer and star of Hallmark Channel’s movie Christmas at Holly Lodge, said the best gifts she ever received are "homemade gifts from my kids. One year they set up a ‘spa’ to give me a pedicure and a back rub. Of course, I kept their homemade gift certificates."
Dax Shepard
Dax Shepard had a hard time choosing the best gift because wife Kristen Bell's given him so many good ones.
"There's a monetary one and then there's the nice thing… One is when my father was dying in 2012, I was back and forth nonstop to Detroit, and I was home just before Christmas. I think it was getting more challenging than I was admitting to Kristen, and she somehow detected that while talking to me. And I had built this wheelchair ramp at his house and then I went back to the hospital, and I was in the parking lot and I called her because I kind of needed some support before I went back in there. And, as I was talking to her on the phone, I heard a knock at the window on my car, and I turned around and she was standing there talking to me. I thought she was in LA. She had flown on a red eye and had come to the hospital knowing I'd be there to surprise me. I think that's the kindest thing anyone's ever done," he said.
"But she also bought me a car that I wouldn't buy myself even though I kept saying, 'If I did this I'm going to buy this car… Oh, if we do a third Samsung commercial I'm going to buy this car…' And I just wouldn't buy myself this car. So she got me that. [It's a] E63 Twin Turbo V8 station wagon. It's the fastest station wagon in the world, and surely every dad should have one."
Brittany Snow
Pitch Perfect star Brittany Snow loves gifts from her nieces! "I hang out with them every Christmas and they always draw me amazing pictures and give me gifts and handmake things. Those are the best things because they’re my nieces and they’re my favorite people."

Carla Hall says her husband is a really great gift giver. "He listens all year round so he has things that I’ve said, that I’ve talked about. It was a collection of books that I wanted. He gives me lots of little things. So, this collection of books that he gave me that I love."
Allison King
Thank You for Your Service star Allison King got her best gift when she was only 6 years old. "My dad got me a synthesizer," she said. "He set it all up on a stand on the side of the house and wound a piece of yarn all through the house like a maze. Christmas morning, I had to follow the yarn all over… and I mean all over the house: under, around and through furniture, in the cupboards. It was crazy fun. And it ended at my keyboard! I’ll never forget that morning. Thanks, Dad!"
Iliza Shlesinger
Iliza Shlesinger, comedian and author of the book Girl Logic, said her answer was "cheesy," but "it's the constant gift of realization and realizing that I'm lucky to have a happy, healthy and whole family around me. I know one day I won't and appreciate that I am realizing it now. Oh, also, my fiancé got me some cool sunglasses last year…that I lost and had to re-buy. So, yeah, family, and one time I gifted myself some sunglasses."
