Is it just us, or is every popular sitcom from the last 20 years rumored for a reboot? With all those rumors floating around, it’s making us wonder just how many of our favorite nostalgia trips will get a makeover in the future. The shows that aren’t being talked about are just as conspicuous as the ones that are. But it’s probably better not to mess with a good thing, right?
That’s gotta be why no one has talked about rebooting How I Met Your Mother. The nine-season series aired its final episode on March 31, 2014, which means it’s been a whopping four years since we said goodbye to a show that made us laugh, made us shout, made us cry and reminded us how amazing a solid ensemble cast comedy can be.
We don’t need a reboot of this iconic series, but we are curious what the cast has been up to since How I Met Your Mother said its final goodbyes… so we did a little research. Here’s what we found.
Bob Saget
For nine seasons, Bob Saget narrated How I Met Your Mother as an older, wiser Ted Mosby. Since the show ended in 2014, Saget has been super-busy. He's currently on a comedy tour, has reprised his role as Danny Tanner in Netflix's Fuller House and released a memoir shortly after HIMYM said goodbye. He's also been doing tons of charity work.
Cristin Milioti
Since she broke our hearts as the infamous Mother, Cristin Milioti has been stepping up her game. Most recently, she freaked us out in an episode of Black Mirror, but she also deepened her comedy roots on The Mindy Project and A to Z. Additionally, she rocked on Fargo as Betsy Solverson and released two movies: last year's Breakable You and 2015's It Had to Be You.
Alyson Hannigan
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alyson Hannigan is set to star in an upcoming ABC comedy produced by Scandal star Kerry Washington. TV Land passed on a reboot of The First Wives Club starring Hannigan and Megan Hilty, so Man of the House will be Hannigan's first foray into scripted television since HIMYM left the air. Last year, Hannigan hosted the CW's Penn & Teller: Fool Us, and she and the rest of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast made everyone go wild when they reunited for an Entertainment Weekly photo shoot in honor of the show's 20th anniversary.
Jason Segel
Since retiring his role as Marshall Eriksen, Jason Segel has costarred with Cameron Diaz in a sex tape-based comedy (aptly titled Sex Tape), portrayed author David Foster Wallace in the fictionalized retelling of the author's notorious 1996 five-day interview with Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky in The End of the Tour and added his name to the long list of actors starring in Netflix originals with his role in The Discovery. This year, he'll also star alongside Lakeith Stanfield in Come Sunday.
Cobie Smulders
After playing Robin Scherbatsky, Cobie Smulders reprised her role as Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe several times over (she'll be in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War too), played the mother in Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events (also starring fellow HIMYM alum Neil Patrick Harris) and starred in the widely loved Friends from College. She can also be seen in a number of movies and TV spots (including some voice work), and in 2015, she gave birth to her second child with husband Taran Killam. She actually talked to SheKnows about sacrificing work to raise her daughters.
Josh Radnor
After the end of How I Met Your Mother, Josh Radnor turned to meditation, did some smaller projects and eventually jumped back into TV with Mercy Street. He's also starring in the new NBC series Rise as a really intense drama teacher. Radnor recently wrapped production on Social Animals, a comedy exploring what happens when a broke single woman tries to salvage her failing business while also falling in love with a married man.
Neil Patrick Harris
Following a new trend of celebrities with spendable income buying out theaters for audiences to see highly impactful films, Neil Patrick Harris recently bought out a screening of Love, Simon in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. After HIMYM ended in 2014, Harris married his longtime partner David Burtka, then went on to become the first openly gay man to host the Academy Awards in 2015. He currently stars as Count Olaf in Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events, and NBC recently picked up his game show for kids, Genius Junior. Harris also expanded his repertoire, winning a Tony Award for his 2014 run in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and releasing a choose-your-own-adventure-style memoir in October 2014.
