Olivia Wilde proves breastfeeding is Glamour-ous

Olivia Wilde is not the only celebrity to support breastfeeding in public, but she has taken a new stance on it by combining nursing her son with a high-fashion photo shoot in the September issue of Glamour magazine.

The star graces the cover of this month’s issue of the magazine, but she looks even more stunning inside the magazine’s spread, where she sits at a retro diner booth wearing a Roberto Cavalli dress and Prada heels, while holding her naked 3-month-old son Otis in her arms and breastfeeding him.

While it’s still considered taboo to nurse your baby in public in some circles, Wilde clearly doesn’t agree.

“Being shot with Otis is so perfect because any portrait of me right now isn’t complete without my identity as a mother being a part of that,” Wilde gushed of her young son, who she shares with fiancé Jason Sudeikis. “Breastfeeding is the most natural thing.”

The The Change-Up actress was more than happy to give a candid interview about her nursing practices, and she continued to explain her views on motherhood.

“I don’t know, now it feels like Otis should always be on my breast,” she said. “It felt like we were capturing that multifaceted woman we’ve been discussing — that we know we can be. You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexy and self-possessed.”

However, just because Wilde stuns in the photo shoot does not mean that a gorgeous Cavalli dress is her usual nursing attire.

“[But] I mean, I certainly don’t really look like that when I’m [typically] breastfeeding. And there’s usually a diaper involved,” she confessed.

Besides being a mom to her tiny tot, Wilde is also in hot demand when it comes to her career, and will soon be starting work on the HBO series Rock ‘n’ Roll Pilot with Martin Scorsese. So how does she manage to balance both aspects of her life?

“The biggest thing I did to change my career was to act on the confidence that I had built and to say, ‘No, I don’t need to work to stay relevant. I’m just going to work on the things that are interesting.’ I developed the confidence to speak up in meetings with Martin Scorsese, fighting for a character that I believe in,” she says.

That said, being a mom has not made her want to slow down on her career either, and she credits her own mom for inspiring her. “My mom is such a badass working mother. That inspired me when I was pregnant,” Wilde explains. “I wasn’t going to sacrifice myself because I was becoming a mother.”
