INTERVIEW: Tyler Oakley’s next stop is world domination

The last time we caught up with fantastic YouTube personality Tyler Oakley, we asked him what it was like being a role model for gay youths. But this time when he spoke with SheKnows at the Teen Choice Awards — the annual event that celebrates the year’s biggest achievements, as voted on by teenagers — we wanted to know about his advice for teens and his dreams.

It’s tough being a teen these days, so we wanted to know what type of advice teens are asking Oakley for.

“They are asking me how do I just be myself, or how do I get my parents to just get who I am,” Oakley revealed. “And my number one thing is to tell them to have patience and choose to surround yourself with people who are supportive of who you are, and it will get better. ”

“Even if you are in a small-minded community now, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get out there and find your own people in the future,” he added.

Oakley is living his dreams now, but looking back on his childhood, how has his life changed?

“I used to dream little and I wish I had dreamed bigger because anything is truly possible if you set your mind to it and if you work hard,” he said. “Dream big and things can happen!”

Living out his dreams is allowing Oakley to rub shoulders with some of Hollywood’s hottest stars, and we wanted to know if there’s anyone who he has a little crush on.

“Darren Criss,” Oakley confessed, but he admitted to crushing on other Hollywood heartthrobs, too.

“Zac Efron, Nick Jonas, Zayn [Malik] from One Direction. I love everyone, anyone with a cute butt,” Oakley joked.

So what is this 25-year-old star’s next big dream?

“Gosh, I don’t know, world domination or something simple like that,” Oakley joked.
