Miley Cyrus pisses off Mexico big-time

The world is familiar with Miley Cyrus’ attention-grabbing antics by now, but it looks as though she has taken her need for publicity too far — again.

Cyrus angered Mexican officials during her Bangerz tour stop in Monterrey, in the northern state of Nuevo León in Mexico, on Sept. 16 (which also happens to be the Mexican Independence Day). Why? Because one of her male backup dancers spanked her on the ass with the Mexican flag.

A video obtained by TMZ shows the pop star twerking while wearing a gigantic fake bottom, and a male backup dancer spanks her bottom with the flag. Mexican officials are very sensitive about disrespecting their national symbols and now the congress of the state of Nuevo León is out for blood — or rather, money.

According to TMZ, the state legislature has requested that the federal government fine Cyrus $1,200, along with a sentence of 36 hours in jail.

The Guardian reports that local lawmaker Francisco Trevino has said that “the Nuevo León state legislature had approved a warrant for the interior ministry to enforce the law on use of the flag.”

This is not the first time that the “Wrecking Ball” hit maker has angered a country; she previously landed in hot water with the Dominican Republic thanks to her raunchy antics.

The government of the Dominican Republic has now banned Miley Cyrus’ concert on morality grounds, saying that it “undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law,” a statement from the commission read.

Will Miley Cyrus ever learn about cultural sensitivity? Or is this not the last time that she will anger a country?
