EXCLUSIVE: Watch the deleted Sleeping Beauty scene you’ve waited 55 years to see

We love Sleeping Beauty and we’re super excited for the diamond edition DVD and Blu-ray release on Oct. 7. Can’t wait until then? Take a peek at this special scene that was sketched out, but never fully animated, for the film. We think it’s awesome.

The Walt Disney animated film, Sleeping Beauty, was originally released in theaters in 1959. Based on two fairy tales, Little Briar Rose by the Brothers Grimm and The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood by Charles Perrault, Aurora has since become one of our favorite princesses.

This epic animated film took nearly a decade to make and was the last Disney film to use hand-inked cels. But even before the animation began, a live-action version of the film was shot, using actors to help the director and animators get a feel for exactly what should be animated to appear onscreen.

If you’ve ever traveled to Germany, you may know that Disney’s famous Sleeping Beauty castle was modeled after the magnificent Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. The castle inspires the imagination and makes the perfect setting for a fairy tale.

In this exclusive clip, the three good fairies have just returned Aurora to the castle and given her a crown. Now alone, Aurora sits at her mirror, daydreaming about Prince Phillip, when she hears a voice whisper her name.

She follows the voice up the stairs of the castle where she finds a tiny sewing room. An ugly hag is there waiting for her and tempts Aurora to try her magical “wishing wheel”. Well, no princess can turn down a chance to wish to see her true love. Watch our video to find out what happens next!

We can only scratch our heads and wonder why this dramatic scene didn’t make it into the film, but we sure are glad we get to see it now.
