The first half of Once Upon a Time‘s fourth season took us on a journey with the characters from Frozen, bringing Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and the Snow Queen to the small screen and exciting us in the process. But even with the chilly aspect of Frozen‘s title and the predicament of its lead character, OUAT had us feeling warm with its exploration of Elsa’s fears and how those fears impacted the now-iconic and much-loved character.

In the exclusive video above, Elsa’s Once Upon a Time portrayer, Georgina Haig, talks about the parts of Elsa that really resonated with viewers.

“The main struggle of Elsa’s is that she’s afraid of who she is and that she can’t accept who she is, and she feels like she doesn’t fit in and that she’s isolated from the world around her. I think that’s a feeling a lot of people can identify with,” she says, noting that Elsa’s fear is perhaps the most unique “villain” the show has seen thus far.

“The villain isn’t a witch or a wizard or a monster; it’s an emotion — it’s the emotion of fear that’s the villain, and that’s a new thing,” she explained.

Costar Jennifer Morrison, who plays Emma Swan, was quick to sing Haig’s praises, saying she did “an amazing job of taking an iconic character… and infusing that with life and putting her own personality into it, but really staying true to what the character was in the movie.”

If all of this praise and talk of isolation and not fitting in doesn’t hit you right in the emotions, then perhaps your heart is frozen, and revisiting Once Upon a Time‘s Frozen foray might be just the remedy for unfreezing it.

Once Upon a Time Season 4 is available on DVD and Blu-ray on Aug. 18.
