The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Star Rachel Brosnahan Shared Everything She Snagged From Set & We’re Officially Jealous

Throughout its five seasons, Rachel Brosnahan perfectly embodied ’50s housewife-turned-standup-comedian Midge Maisel in the hit Prime Video showThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. And although season 5, premiering April 14, will be the show’s last, there’s one silver lining Brosnahan is focused on: getting to keep some of Midge‘s tchotchkes.

“I’ve been joking about what thieves we are but we did get permission to take the things we took,” Brosnaham tells SheKnows. “I kept Midge’s rings that she wore as Mrs. Maisel, I kept a piece of art from Midge’s apartment and a bunch of coats have a post-it with my name on it. Very excited to walk away with those.”

Luckily for her, clothes, rings and art aren’t the only thing she’ll be walking away with. “I gained two more moms out of working on this show,” Brosnahan says of co-stars Marin Hinkle and Caroline Aaron, who play Midge’s mom Rose and former mother-in-law Shirley. “We’re going to be in each other’s lives forever.”

“These two women in completely different ways are some of the funniest women I have ever met,” she adds. “I say that and then there’s Alex [Borstein]. I mean, I’m so lucky to be surrounded by all these funny women.”

“Marin eating a grapefruit is one of my favorite things season after season,” she says, asking everyone to watch Hinkle “closely” when Rose has a grapefruit in hand. “Caroline just makes us laugh with even the most innocuous lines,” Brosnahan adds, “They’re two gemstones, and I’m lucky to have them.”

Brosnahan also talked about her special relationship with Tony Shalhoub, who plays her father Abe on the show. “I’ve learned so much from working with Tony,” she says. “I learned how to be a better leader of a set from working with Tony, who’s had so much experience doing this.”

She continues, “Tony also delights in the work that he does and is so insatiably curious in a way that I’ve been continually inspired by. He’s been doing this forever, and he still loves (or at least pretends really well) like he loves every single day on set as much as the first and it’s really inspiring to watch someone who’s been around that long still love what they do so much.”

Brosnahan also took a moment to look back at the scenes that, for her, were Midge’s major turning points through the years.

“I think there’s two that feel tied,” she says. “One when [Borstein’s] Susie said ‘You should be a comic,'” she recalls of that iconic season one moment. “I don’t think that was a path that Midge had ever envisioned for herself. And to have someone like Susie believe in her in that moment and see her in a way that she could never have seen herself and that would change her life forever.”

“On the flip side, in season four, when [Luke Kirby’s] Lenny tells her she’s f**** it all up,” Brosnahan says, adding that Lenny was “the person who she admires the most in this business.” In the scene, following Lenny’s historic set at Carnegie Hall, he says Midge is, in essence, making the wrong career decisions and ultimately letting him down. “That was a really important moment for Midge heading into season five,” Brosnahan explains.

As for what to expect in the new season, airing on Prime Video, Brosnahan didn’t get into many details besides complementing the show’s creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino. “We felt in such capable hands,” she says. “And that’s a really rare gift to get to experience for five years.” Tune in on Friday to see how Midge’s story finally pans out!
