Jake Johnson & Ophelia Lovibond Have a Feminist Face Off to Celebrate Minx Season 2

Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson are back for another round of feminist magazine making as Joyce Prigger and Doug in season 2 of Minx, which joins the Starz family, premiering right after Outlander. The first season of Minx found Joyce and Doug Renetti going their separate ways, and season 2 has the unlikely duo finding their way back together to save the magazine. Johnson and Lovibond sat down exclusively to tell us all about season 2, we decided to put them to a little feminist test. After all, their show centers on Prigger, a young Gloria Steinem-esque Editor-in-Chief, that partners with Johnson’s Doug to create America’s first erotic magazine. Their characters are delightful frenemies who challenge each other, navigate gender conflict, but at the core both have their own unique brand of feminism. And together, they create a magazine full of feminism with a sprinkling of male genitalia. And by sprinkling, there’s a lot of penises. A lot.

Before the feminism test kicked off, Johnson and Lovibond shared what they love most about working with each other. Johnson quickly started by joking that he loves being in Austin, Texas with her going to bars, referencing when the two were at ATX Festival for their Minx panel. What happens in Austin, stays in Austin. But Johnson revealed Lovibond has more energy than everyone, and Lovibond added, “I don’t know where it’s kept, I’m only 5’ 2”.” Legends come in small packages. Sounds like a line that Joyce Prigger might write herself. But Johnson quickly added, “Apart from being talented, she’s really fun, she’s a good hang, so the scenes are always really good, because we get to battle it out and talk!” Lovibond agreed and said, “He just makes it. It doesn’t feel like work at all, I feel really lucky, it’s always so, you’re just laughing constantly. I get home from work and think, ‘I can’t believe that was work.’”

When it came time for the ultimately feminism test, both Johnson and Lovibond looked nervous. But Lovibond started off strong right out of the gate, not even waiting for the multiple choice answers. And Johnson, quickly repeated her answers as his tactic for winning. Watch the video to find out which of the co-stars turned out to be the best feminist.
