Elizabeth Perkins Reveals What Line Got Her to Take Her Role on Minx

Minx is about to get a whole lot “minxier” thanks to Elizabeth Perkins joining Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson for season 2 of their hit Starz show. As she does with every show she graces with her talent, Perkins injects new life, memorable zingers, and just all around legend behavior to the already fantastic comedy. Perkins sat down to exclusively chat with us about what drew her into this the spicy, edgy, feminist hit as the fiery Constance Papadopolous. Plus, she took part in a round of feminist trivia that Johnson and Lovibond also faced off in. Watch the video chat to find out which line, or rather lines, Perkins loved so much that she knew she had to be part of this show.

From Weeds, to Sharp Objects, to This is Us, and now Minx, Perkins brings her special brand of magic to every role. And Constance is no exception. When asked which line of Constance’s made her want to do this role, Perkins confesses, “There were several lines in the script. One in particular is a conversation I’m having with Joyce Prigger (Lovibond), and she asks me if it was true that someone tried to kill me. And I just turned to her and said, ‘That was a long time ago.’” Perkins deadpans this in full character. Watch and you’ll see. Perkins says that line set the tone for her character, “No, no, no, you don’t speak until spoken to.”

Just as we tested Johnson and Lovibond, we decided to see just how well Perkins knew about feminist history, especially in the publishing world. And she didn’t disappoint. From the name of Gloria Steinem’s first magazine, to when The Wall Street Journal hired a woman to be its first Editor-in-Chief, Perkins knew her feminist history well. And in the case of The Wall Street Journal not hiring their first woman editor for 133 years until 2022, she said, “Doesn’t surprise me at all.” Facts. The Minx world thankfully is nothing like The Wall Street Journal. The suits come off, and the women run the show. Literally. Season 2 premieres on Starz on July 21 at 9pm after Outlander. Get your Feminist Friday going from Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) to Joyce Prigger to Constance, and find out why Constance Papadopolous should be the first woman President. Okay, maybe not, but it would be amusing and interesting, to say the least.
