While Hannah Brown is already an accomplished author with her 2021 memoir God Bless This Mess, the former The Bachelorette is preparing for another major milestone: becoming a novelist!
On May 7, Brown’s debut novel, Mistakes We Never Made, will hit the stands and have Bachelor Nation fans flocking to add it to their shopping carts.
“All that life has thrown at me in the past few years, I could have never dreamt up but one thing I always wanted to do, like one of those big long-shot dreams, was to be able to write a novel one day,” Brown tells SheKnows. “I’m excited for people to be able to read this.”
The novel follows Emma Townsend and “romantic red flag” Finn Hughes as they reunite after almost hooking up a few times at a friend’s wedding. Everything is going fine until the bride goes missing and the two embark on an adventure to find her. “Two days before the wedding, Emma and Finn are hitting the road in a sweet vintage sports car in hopes of salvaging someone else’s happily-ever-after,” the description reads.
According to Brown, while Emma and Finn’s dynamic is “a whole new story” from her own, details about her own romantic life, including her relationship with fiancé Adam Woolard, are “definitely sprinkled in.” “That was important to have little, you know, Easter eggs like Taylor Swift would do,” Brown says. “But it is a whole new story, I really got to tap into that creativity.”
Speaking on the experiences of writing both books, Brown said the novel was undoubtedly “a more enjoyable experience.” “Being able to bring that [memoir] out in the world and how many people it’s connected with I’m so grateful for that,” Brown reflects. With that said, however, writing it was quite challenging. “[It was] really going back into some harder times in my life and having to basically write out my own therapy appointments,” she jokes.
Mistakes We Never Made, on the other hand, was pure “fun.” “It was kind of that creative outlet that I needed to have and to be able to just dream up what and how these characters were going to respond, react, what type of crazy adventures they were going to go on, and then being able to weave my own life into it that was really fun,” Brown says. “And I had an amazing team that helped really make this book what it is and something that I’m super proud and pumped for people to dive into the story and be in this crazy fast-paced adventure that’s also like steamy and sexy and romantic.”
Ahead of the release, Brown partnered with McAlister’s Deli for their limited edition Book Club menu, titled “Choose 2,” inspired by Brown’s favorite book genres – Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, and Romance. For Brown, the partnership brings together three essential parts of reading a book (whether it’s alone or in a book club). “I feel like it’s the trifecta of good food, good friends and a good book,” she says.
“I’ve been so blessed to be able to partner with McAlister’s Deli, who really can give you the good food part with a variety of different things and it’s been really cool to debut this new “Choose 2″ limited edition based on my favorite book genres,” Brown adds. “It’s national reading month and so to be able to celebrate that with McAlister’s is just something really cool.”
With a book club or not, we can’t wait to dive into Brown’s new novel!
