Jude Law Is Unrecognizable & Terrifying Opposite Alicia Vikander in an Exclusive Clip From Firebrand

Jude Law is shedding shivers down our spines in an exclusive clip from his highly-anticipated historical drama, Firebrand. The beloved British actor stars alongside Alicia Vikander in the first English-language movie from Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz and we have a never-before-seen clip above!

The movie, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival, will hit theaters on June 14. Brought to our screens by Roadside Attractions and Vertical, the film is set against the violent backdrop of Tudor England and Law plays the tyrannical, scheming Henry VIII, known for his many marriages. Vikander is Katherine Parr, the educated woman who reluctantly agreed to be the King’s sixth wife.

While hoping to avoid the fate that befell the women who married Henry VIII before her, who were infamously vanquished, beheaded or otherwise did not survive their marriages to the King, Katherine’s role in the kingdom changed the course of history forever.

“When Henry appoints [Katherine] as Regent, the nation’s ruler during his absence when he departs to fight overseas, he lays a dangerous path for her,” the Firebrand synopsis reads. “Henry’s courtiers, suspecting she’d sympathetic to radical Protestant beliefs that have taken root in the kingdom and are a threat to their power, scheme against her and cast doubts upon her fidelity to the increasingly ailing and paranoid King.”

In our exclusive clip, Law’s character has turned his fury on his wife’s childhood friend, Anne Askew, one of the many people Henry’s court convicted of treason and burned at the stake. A horrified Katherine barely disguises her grief when she brazenly tells her husband: “Her death is on your soul.”

Quickly, she is reminded of her husband’s violent tendencies and, as seen in the clip, Law grabs Vikander by the neck. He tells us: “Don’t question us, and don’t speak of our soul. Unless you want the King dead, is that what you want?”

Thus ensues Katherine’s fight for survival as she finds herself under intense scrutiny from her husband’s court, in which she has few allies. While trying to protect the kingdom from the fate towards which her husband is sending it, Katherine must act alone to avoid her downfall.
