Meghan Trainor Reveals The Most Surprising Thing About Working With ‘Queen’ Paris Hilton

With a new album, a new national tour, two young kids, and a new collaboration The Royal Caribbean, Meghan Trainor is one busy lady. So, of course, we sat down with her to learn more about her new projects and how she manages to balance it all.

In early July, Trainor became a godmother to Utopia of the Seas. Together with the announcement, Trainor embarked on a weekend getaway full of exciting performances for her fans (including 52 super fans who received major VIP treatment). For Trainor, the partnership was a no-brainer.

“Well, my fans are the best,” Trainor says of her fan-filled mini vacation. “They’re just the best people, and they’ve been with me for 10 years now. So we all kind of grew up together. I was 19 when I started this, and a lot of them were, like, eight to 20. So we’re all in this together, and a lot of them are my good friends now.”

“I got really excited when I heard they gave 52 spots on this ship to my super fans,” she continues. “We’re gonna party like it’s the weekend.”

In addition to reaching her godmother status and announcing her national tour, which kicks off on September 4th, Trainor also recently released a new song, “Chasin” with none other than Paris Hilton.

“Paris Hilton is a queen,” Trainor says. “She’s an icon. She’s my sis.”

“I heard she was making music, and I love her songs, and I love her as an artist and as a person so I jumped in immediately and was like, ‘Hey, does anyone want a song?’ And I sent her a bunch of songs, and one of the songs they picked was ‘Chasin,'” Trainor says of how the collab began.

Fast-forward to working together, Trainor says she was quite surprised by Hilton’s singing chops. “I remember getting her vocals for the first time, and I was like, ‘Oh, she’s singing,'” she remembers. “I wasn’t sure what her voice would sound like on this song, and it was incredible.”

“So I was very proud and impressed,” she adds. “I’m always impressed by her work ethic because she works 24/7.”

Talking about how she balances it all, Trainor credits her husband, Daryl Sabara. “He’s a great guy, that helps a lot,” Trainor says. “I bring him everywhere with me, so he’s here now. He’s being a super dad with Riley.” Trainor and Sabara share 3-year-old Riley as well as 1-year-old Barry.

According to Trainor, being busy “super” parents has also brought them closer. “Having two young kids, we go to bed very early so after 7:30 the kids they’re both asleep, we meet up in our bedroom and every night, we’re like, ‘Let’s watch a show and let’s have a special date night time,'” Trainor says. “So we feel almost more connected than ever because we’re more present. It’s great.”

Being parents, however, comes with its fair share of learning moments. Remembering her last parenting fail, Trainor says getting a one-bedroom room at a hotel was a big “whoops.”

“That boy was up all night,” she says of her eldest, Riley. “He was too excited. He never sleeps with us, he’s always in his own bed, and he’s really good at it. So when we’re traveling and we’re sharing a bed, he was up all night, just like, screaming and kicking his feet in the air.” We live and we learn, right?
