With food recalls abound and consumers becoming more curious where their foods are coming from, the HarvestMark app delivers instant access to information about the fresh food in your fridge or shopping basket. Here’s more on the new food tracker.
HarvestMark Food Traceability App
HarvestMark is the fresh food traceability platform from California-based YottaMark, Inc. Thousands of farms in the US, Canada, Mexico, and South America use HarvestMark traceability to connect the field to the kitchen, letting shoppers know when, where and how their food was grown. To date, more than three billion packages of food have been made traceable with HarvestMark.
Track your fresh foods
To trace your food, simply download the free HarvestMark app (for iPhone), look for the 16-digit HarvestMark code on participating fruits and vegetables, enter the code on your phone, and instantly receive harvest information specific to the food you’re holding. The app also keeps a history of the foods you’ve traced.
“Today’s shoppers want to know their food is fresh and safe, and where it’s from,” says J. Scott Carr, CEO of YottaMark. “And they want this information instantaneously with the simple scan of a smartphone. We are pleased to introduce the newest HarvestMark Food Traceability App, which is the first to empower shoppers with harvest, freshness and safety information about the food they eat. We’re proud to work with over 3,000 farms and ranches, from Canada to Argentina, to provide this important information to shoppers.”
More than just a food tracker
In addition to learning the origin of your fresh foods with HarvestMark, you can also ask questions and give feedback to the farmers and food sellers with the app’s Talk to the Farmer feature. You can also rely on the Food Safety Notification feature, which updates a food’s safety status to provide an immediate line of communication to the shopper in the event of a recall.
“We know how important it is to our customers that they learn as much as they can about the foods they choose to buy and eat,” says Matt Mandel, vice president of sales and marketing for SunFed, a North American produce packing company based in Arizona. “By featuring HarvestMark on our melons, including cantaloupe, we are proud to provide customers with the information they seek to give them peace of mind when buying healthy food for their families.”
Where are HarvestMark foods?
HarvestMark traceability can be found at thousands of grocery stores across the United States and Canada, berries from Driscoll’s, fruits and vegetables from Fresh Selections and Private Selection by Kroger, and produce from Sun World, Del Campo, Alpine Fresh, Borders Melon, Frontera and many other brands. The newest HarvestMark Food Traceability App is available for iPhone 4, 3GS and iPad, and shoppers can also trace their fresh food by entering HarvestMark codes at HarvestMark.com.
