Fig-alicious Compote
Ingredients:

- 1 cup dried figs, chopped
- 1 cup orange juice
- 2 coarsely crushed black peppercorns
- 2 coarsely crushed cardamom pods
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick crushed
- Zest of 1 orange
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 2 tablespoons white wine or more to taste
- 1/4 cup sugar (try vanilla sugar)
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Directions:

- Place spices in a muslin bag, tie to seal, and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine figs, orange juice, zest, wine, and sugar. Cook, stirring, until mixture comes to a boil.
- Add the bag, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes or until mixture is thick. Stir in walnuts and continue to cook for a few minutes.
- Remove muslin bag and transfer compote to a sterilized mason jar. Use immediately or allow to cool and store, sealed, in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
