Peanut recipes for National Peanut Month

Did you know that March is National Peanut Month? This protein-packed legume (yes, peanuts are more related to peas than nuts) has  more protein, niacin, folate and phytosterols than any nut, and delivers more antioxidants than grapes and other well-touted antioxidant-rich foods. Though peanuts get a bad rap due to food allergies, they are one of the healthiest “nuts” you can chow (if you aren’t allergic to them). Here are some delish peanut recipes to celebrate this nutty month.

Fun peanut facts

March is the month for peanuts, including National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day on March 1 and National Peanut Cluster Day on March 8. There are four types of peanuts grown in the United States (Runner, Virginia, Spanish, and Valencia) with most of the peanut farms designated as family-owned and operated. According to the National Peanut Board, Americans spend almost $800 million a year on peanut butter; the average American consumes more than six pounds of peanuts and peanut products per year. The average child will eat 1,500 PB&J sandwiches before high school graduation. When it comes to the question of creamy versus crunchy, women and children prefer creamy while men opt for crunchy.
