“L-Theanine is an amino acid found in green tea that has been shown to reduce mental and physical stress and may produce feelings of relaxation,” says Dr. Lucille. L-Theanine is speculated to produce these effects by increasing the level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) production. It increases also has been shown to increase serotonin and dopamine.
Rhodiola
According to Dr. Lucille, rhodiola rosea has a reputation for stimulating the nervous system, decreasing depression, enhancing work performance, eliminating fatigue, and increasing resistance to a variety of chemical, biological, and physical stressors.
Pantothenic Acid (vitamin B5)
“This is a water soluble vitamin which is produced in the intestines by bacteria and is known to place a role on preventing depression,” says Dr. Lucille. “It is closely involved in adrenal cortex function and has come to be known as the “antistress” vitamin. It supports the adrenal glands to increase production of cortisone and other adrenal hormones to help counteract stress and enhance metabolism.”
