According to Food Safety News, Dole is voluntarily recalling 1,077 cases of bagged salads, citing a possible Listeria monocytogenes risk. Listeria monocytogenes, one of the most virulent foodborne pathogens, causes listeriosis and is responsible for approximately 2,500 illnesses and 500 deaths in the United States annually. Symptoms of infection can include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea or diarrhea. So far, there are no illnesses reported in association with the Dole recall.

“This precautionary recall notification is being issued due to an isolated instance in which a sample of Marketside Leafy Romaine salad yielded a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes in a random sample test conducted by the State of North Carolina,” said Dole in a press release.
