1. Bake cookies for Santa — and others
Get your kids in the kitchen and bake cookies for Santa, family, friends, and neighbors or bake a batch for the local rescue mission or homeless shelter. Decorating sugar or gingerbread cookies are the perfect way to keep little hands occupied and it is a great way to give to others who may need a few cookies to take their mind off of stress of the holidays.

2. Watch Christmas movies
Check the local listings for Christmas movies or go rent one from the nearest RedBox. Then pop an extra large batch of popcorn and curl up together on the couch until it’s time for the kids to go to bed to rest up for the big morning.

3. Walk the neighborhood
The best way to keep your kids’ minds off the gifts under the tree is by getting them out away from the gifts under the tree. Bundle up and take a walk around the neighborhood to check out the lights and front yard Christmas decor.
4. Christmas crafts
Pull out the craft supplies and have your kids make ornaments or other holiday crafts in prep for next year’s decor or to give as gifts.

5. Prep for Christmas breakfast
Since no one wants to be in the kitchen all morning cooking breakfast while everyone else is celebrating in the living room, recruit your kids to help you prep the Christmas morning menu. Bake muffins or quick bread that can be easily served with milk or coffee. Assemble a casserole that merely needs to be put in the oven to heat. Make a giant fruit salad. Put on a slow cooker of porridge. Prepping breakfast the night before saves you time and gives you the chance to actually relax and enjoy the holiday morning.
