Starting your morning in a fit of harried stress can set a terrible tone for the rest of your day. Here are five ways to save yourself time every morning.
5 Time-saving tips for busy mornings
1. Use your calendar
Don’t you hate waking up in a start realizing that you’ve got an 8 a.m. appointment and you have only minutes to pack lunches, get the kids ready for school, and hopefully find time for a quick shower? Avoid last-minute stress by using that calendar on your phone, computer, or wall. Write down or type in appointments, kids’ school activities, family obligations, and any other thing that requires your presence or effort. Now be sure to look at your calendar every Sunday morning so you know what is coming up in the next week. Set alarms on your phone or computer to get reminded of upcoming events.
2. Pack up the night before
Every night, take the time to pack lunches and backpacks for your kids as well as your briefcase, purse and gym bag. When you wake up in the morning, all you have to do is get dressed and grab your goods as you walk out the door.
3. Get your attire together
The last thing you want to encounter in the morning is a child who can’t find her favorite dress, a son with a dirty sports uniform, or a broken heel on one of your shoes. Lay your family’s clothing out the night before so there aren’t any surprises come sun-up.
4. Make easy breakfast recipes
The most important meal of the day is breakfast — don’t leave home without it. But don’t let it be the end-all of your sanity in the morning either. Make a giant batch of waffles on the weekend and simply pop them in the toaster in the a.m. Make a large fruit salad and eat on it through the week. Whir up a blenderful of smoothie and keep it in the fridge. Have a variety of nutrition bars to grab and go.
5. Wake up a little earlier
When time is tight in the morning, consider setting your alarm 15 minutes earlier. Every minute counts when you’re trying to get your family ready for the day. The extra 15 minutes and time saved from the above tips will give you more than you can imagine as your day begins.
