Four fall centerpieces

With fall in full swing, there are numerous ways to dress your table for in-home entertaining. One of the most prominent ways to showcase seasonal style is with your centerpiece. Whether you want to achieve an elegant look or a fun, friendly vibe, look to fall produce such as pears, persimmons, and pumpkins to add some seasonal delight to your dinner party.

A BOWL OF BOUNTY

If you’re short on time, pick up your table centerpiece at the grocery store. If you have a festive basket that you can fill with fall produce, make an informal arrangement of kumquats, squash, bell pepper, baby pumpkins, carrots, and persimmons that will set the stage for a delicious fall feast.

PUMPKIN VASE

When the kids are carving Jack-0′-lanterns or painting bright orange pumpkins, choose your own round, orange pumpkin to carve into a makeshift vase. To showcase flowers or a pretty scented candle, all you have to do is scoop the innards out of the pumpkin and fit a small plastic container inside. Fit a piece of floral foam inside the container and soak it with water to help flowers retain vitality; arrange flowers as desired and water daily.

DINE BY CANDLELIGHT

A candle centerpiece can add an elegant touch to a meal or holiday event. Choose pumpkin or gourd-shaped molded candles that can light up a room, or opt for flameless candles that will never burn out. If you’re looking for a more understated design, pick pillar candles in your favorite seasonal scents or colors and arrange them on a gilded tray to bring the display together.

FALL FLORALS

Fresh flowers will always be in style, but the fall harvest season offers numerous options for floral centerpieces. Use a short or square vase and follow Martha Stewart’s recommendations of an arrangement of roses, daffodils, ranunculuses, calla lilies, tulips, and hypericum berries in fall colors—yellow, peach, and shades of orange.
