Copycat Panera country white bread

Even though there is far more than just bread on the menu at Panera, we have to admit, it’s the reason we go there. Their crispy baguettes, fluffy bagels and country white bread have our nostrils flared and our tummies growling. To satisfy our obsession, we made a copycat version of one of their most popular items.

This fluffy country white bread is the perfect recipe for those who crave Panera. Even if you’re not an expert breadmaker, this recipe makes it easier than ever to replicate your favorite loaf at home. Just be warned, you’ll want to triple the recipe once you bite into one warm-from-the-oven slice!

Copycat Panera country white bread recipe

Yields 1 loaf

Ingredients:

  • 1 package active dry yeast (1/4 ounce)
  • 1 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons oil (we used canola)
  • 3-1/2 cups bread flour
  • Dash of salt

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix the yeast, water and sugar together. Let sit until foamy, about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, add egg, oil and bread flour.
  2. Using the bread hook of a stand mixer, beat the mixture until soft and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  3. Place the dough on a floured surface and knead with your hands until soft. Cover a bowl with oil and place the dough inside. Roll the dough in the bowl to ensure it’s oiled. Spray plastic wrap with oil and cover the bread. Let sit in a warm place for about 75 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch the dough down and then place into a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Cover with a greased piece of plastic wrap until doubled in size, about an hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Bake the bread for about 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy!
